Ric Flair Posted 6 November 2008 Posted 6 November 2008 They should play it a few hours before we play a home game, might get a fair few down there then.

davieG Posted 22 November 2008 Author Posted 22 November 2008 Much better game than the last one - a deserved win
Thracian Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Set off to watch this but was frustrated by a puncture. Wouldn't you just like the gear and resources of those Formula One teams? Another two goals from Billy Kee sounds encouraging. And Luke O'Neil sounded well involved. l

I know he played some part of last freindly but is he to old for the youth team? He looked a great prospect in last 2 years!

He looked a great prospect in last 2 years! He started sharing a house with Hayes, got injured, apparently recovered and that's about the last that's been heard of him. He no longer plays for the Academy so he'll just be training and hoping for a few minutes in the reserves on occasions. He and Porter seem well off the radar.
Webbo Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 What do we know about this Yussuf? Is he a British Asian or 1 of the academy's foreign recruits?
Thracian Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 What do we know about this Yussuf? Is he a British Asian or 1 of the academy's foreign recruits? I've honestly never thought of it that way. Does it make a difference? Are we going to have another Kaebi-type campaign to suit some PC drive? DavieG might have a view of his performance today. Me I've only seen him two or three times and certainly not enough to form any long-term opinion. But I'm damned sure I wouldn't base it on whether he's a British Asian or any other type of Asian. One of the great things about football is that it's a meritocracy where, mostly, no-one seems to give a shit where people come from.
Webbo Posted 22 November 2008 Posted 22 November 2008 Sorry Thrac, I just like to see local lads doing well.
davieG Posted 22 November 2008 Author Posted 22 November 2008 He scored a cracking 20 yarder from a rebounded off the upright Craig King effort. As for his general performance it was very much like everyone else somewhat hot and cold. MKD's goal was a mess but then so was Kee's first, his second was a beauty. O'Neal needs to take a hard look at himself, he had a decent game but was fouled a couple of time, unnoticed by the ref but ended up getting booked for telling the ref what he'd missed. He then spent the next 15 minutes going through a sulk, at least that's what it looked like.

He then spent the next 15 minutes going through a sulk, at least that's what it looked like. He does seem quite a reactive individual and I wonder if that's why he's pretty much returned to the Academy set-up after his brief involvement with the first team. Nothing new in that for a teenager but I do hope he learns that whatever happens in a game and however he feels personally, he has a responsibility to the team and to the manager which should be paramount at all times. Consider the fortunes of two players with contrasting temperament: Alan Sheehan. Talented full-back. But sent off three or four times in a relatively small number of first team appearances both for Leicester and Leeds. Is it coincidence that he's drifted out of the Leeds squad or is it that his manager has decided he can't be relied on. Andy King. Another gifted player this time in the engine room of midfield. Never sent off in a comparable number of games to Sheehan, and I can't remember him even being booked. Totally reliable however the game is going and whatever the level of his own contribution. Despite being a big admirer of Sheehan's ability I know which example O'Neill should follow if he wants to make progess. And King is not the only example around him. In fact the self-discipline of the first team is generally excellent.
