Steven Posted 16 April 2005 Posted 16 April 2005 Final score 6-1. West Ham HammeredAfter the disappointment of an away defeat last week, it was West Ham United who were to suffer the backlash as City's under 18s cruised to a 6-1 victory at the Belvoir Drive training ground. Three goals in the opening eight minutes was only the start as Leicester's Academy stars put on a show to remember in the first period of their final home game of the campaign. Chris O'Grady got the ball rolling in just the 2nd minute. Adam Wykes cross from the left has won in the air by Ricky Muggleton as he climbed above the 'keeper to head the ball down into the path of O'Grady for an easy six yard tap-in to the gaping net. Less than three minutes later it was 2-0, though James Graham's goal wasn't exactly pretty. Levi Porter's corner flash across the face of goal and with the West Ham defence failing to clear their lines, it fell to Graham who poked the ball home at full stretch from close range. A great cross-field ball from James Wesolowski set Graham on his way to his second in only the eighth minute. The striker took his shot well from the edge of the area to put City three up. Another corner produced the Foxes' fourth, the ball reaching defender Liam Norval 18 yards out. Though falling backward at the time, Norval managed to get enough on his strike to lob the goalkeeper and find the target at the far post. Leicester then started to turn on the style with back-heels, step-overs and the like all employed to bewilder the Hammers. Tempers flared with 35 minutes gone as West Ham's frustations grew and a scuffle resulted in both captains being cautioned, thougha number of players were lucky to avoid punishment for their part in the fracas. Porter then made a bid for goal of the season to top off a beautiful City passing move, the England youth international beating his man to fire the ball past the helpless 'keeper. On the stroke of half-time City let their concentration slip to allow Kyel Reid to snatch a consolation effort entirely against the run of play. The Foxes' lost their way somewhat in the second half and the visitor's were presented with a faint glimmer of hope when they were awarded a 73rd minute penalty. But Conrad Logan was equal to the task and pulled off a fine save. Leicester restored their five goal lead through substitute Billy McKay late on, the youngster taking his chance well as Louis Dodds laid the ball off and he struck with precision into the bottom corner. Stephen Dawson tried to round off the day with a solo goal and although his magnificent run was cut short as the 'keeper brought him down in the area before he could get his shot away, the result was already well and truly in the bag.
