In the West I'm hoping for the resurrection of San Antonio Spurs. I miss Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili on the big stage. :)

I'm not hoping for it but have to say you can never rule the spurs out; espically in an odd year (titles in 03, 05 and 07).

In the even numbered years they always had some bit of tiny bit of bad luck to beat them. In 04 Fishers miracle shot with 0.4 left on the clock in game 5. In 06 manu having the brain freeze moment and fouling dirk on a wide open dunk to send the game into OT. And in 08 there was the incident with their plane after the game 7 against new orleans meaning they arrived in LA for game 1 at 6am and not having spelt, hence losing a 20 point lead in the game due to tiredness.

Its 09 so i would never bet against them...

I felt sorry for him when they lost in the final the other year. He carried that team on his own.

LeBron deserves a ring, he's 25 this year and it's his 6th year in NBA.It's about time he gets one. ;)

Unfortunatly some players dont get what they deserve in this league (look back at stocktons career) And if it comes down to lakers/cavs finals he aint getting one this year either. Kobe is just the better all round player (right now anyway) and has the stronger supporting cast as well as all the experience on board.

I've seen them play this year and they look very inferior to the like of Lakers. They're 10 wins or so behind them as well. Looking at their roster, it's largely the same core of players who are there i.e. Duncan, Parker, Ginobili, Gooden etc. so I don't quite know why they are falling short.

I hope 09 is their year but they've got nothing on Cleveland, Boston and Lakers. Even Orlando are looking good with Superman Howard leading the line.

I wouldnt have any concern with them being 10 games behind at this point; i dont think the spurs have ever won the title when they have been number 1 seed (i could be wrong though). The good thing about them is that Pop knows how to slowly build them through so come april time all the players are playing at there peak and healthy (bareing manu maybe this year) which is why they are so good. Plus the way that started the season with the big 3 missing numerous games between them the gap is no real surpirse.

Its all the role players that have changed on their team, the core of timmy, manu, TP, bowen has stayed and the roles players this year are different; gooden, mason, bonnar, hill etc. That usually works in their favour as they have the players who have done it all, and the players who have the hungar/desire to want their first ring

If orlando some how come out of the east they would only beat the spurs if they are hitting from distance; which they could do but with the spurs rotations the open looks they normally get wont be as open.

Against cleveland, they will let LeBron score to his hearts content and shut down everyone else on the team, just like they did in 07. I cant see cavs beating them in 7 games, as Brown wont be able to out-coach Pops, or make the neccessary in game adjustments which Pop will make. Not this year anyway, maybe next year.

Boston, would be one hell of a finals series and i wouldnt wont to call that if KG is back healthy. Rondo has the speed to keep up with parker. PP could shut down manu if he decided to play all out on D each game. Timmy and KG would just be a coin flip, take your pick. Leaving Allen as the x-factor. If he can free himself from bowen threw/around enough screens that could be the difference. But now the spurs have mason to do the exact same thing.

Thats assuming they can get past LA. La has no-one who can slow TP down. Ariza, could be used to keep manu quiet. An timmy can shut down Gasol all day long. This series would simply come down to Kobe. Which we all know means he can shoot both teams to victory

Boston are strong on all fronts. Even without KG they beat Cleveland not so long ago. As you said, all you gotta do is let LeBron do his thing and shut down the rest of his team. LeBron & Co. got outclassed and outfought in the finals against Spurs in 2007.

Spurs got the right roaster and great players like Manu and Timmy. Popovich knows his stuff, I agree with that. I just hope they hit their peak at the right time and go past Lakers.

I can already foresee it Lakers v Spurs final in the West, and Cleveland v Boston final in the East.

Boston v Spurs would be an exquisite final.

Sorry, but the NBA takes a back seat right now because all American basketball fans are focused on March Madness--the NCAA national basketball championship tournament, the greatest and most exciting annual sports tournament in the world. The first round started a few hours ago, and we're blessed with non-stop ridiculous basketball through Sunday night for the first two rounds.

Lakers will be in the final. Lakers will win the championship. :P

They'll win the West--but why can't Boston beat them again?

I think, though, in a seven-game series, the Lakers have a serious frontcourt advantage against the Cavs if Andrew Bynum can get healthy. He messed up his knee right as he was playing the best ball of his life.

I've tried but just can't get into it, When does the Baseball season start Jordan? April?

The Major League season starts on April 5. Right now, the World Baseball Classic is underway, with the U.S., Venezuela, Japan and S. Korea in the semifinals. The MLB teams are playing Spring Training games and whittling down their rosters... but I guess this would belong in another thread...

Bynum was playing brilliantly, I wasn't a fan at first but I like him a\lot now. Much more than Gasol who has tried to cover for him.

Lakers can beat Boston over 7 games this time. They wont even need 7. 4-2 win.

Would be a great final, but probarly the worst possible combo for Stern, so sure he can persuade the refs to stop it from happening like in previous years.

March MADness baby!!! Cant beat it.

Technically he aint english. He was born in sudan. If counting that then theres loads of players Gordon, Amachei etc

He's classed as English though. Plays for England. Captain of England.

Oh - And Gordon may have been born in England, but he's American.

The only true englishman i can think of (meaning born and raised in england, just to avoid confusion  ) to play in the nba is steve bucknall, he had a (very) brief spell with the lakers in late 80's.

Not sure of any others, but think there could have been

I remember reading a lot about Nathan Jawai couple of years back, i know he tore it up in the oz league (but having seen the standard while i was out there last year, not much better than the BBL really) but dont think he'll ever do much in the L.

But i know you do have a good 4/5 players out there at college at the min with good prospects for the L

Welck, what team are you actually rooting for? Are you a LeBron fan? ;)

And also, do you actually watch the NCAA?

One of the reasons Lakers are actually doing better now is because Kobe has started to trust his team mate. Don't know whether it's the instructions of Jackson or not, but folks like Lamar Odem, Trevor Ariza (very good defender) Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol are actually taking some responsibility and some of the burden of Kobe's shoulders.

Indeed they are, a large factor in the Lakers winning the Western Finals last year.

Btw Kareem, are you a Spurs man? All about the Celtics methinks :P .

Trevor Ariza has been brilliant this season whenever i've watched him. Nails some big shots.

Spurs - Tim Duncan is my favourite player. Ironic that my other porn star is also called Tim (Cahill). ;) . Manu is also something special.

Welck is right, in 06/07 they took Lakers to Game 7 in the Western Conference Finals, even though they only came 3rd in the Western Conference. Started the season slowly but peaked at the right time. I'm hoping for the same against this season.
