Has anyone been?

Any tips on what i should do or see?

Haven't been but from what I've seen there's not much to see or do but go coral diving.

A friend of mine says you can't really miss the strip.

I've had good reports on it though and may be tempted to go myself in the near future.

Have a good one and give us a trip report when you come back

Sharm is cool, but really only suited to divers and sun worshippers. The Diving is pretty good there - if you haven't done any you really need to either do a course there or before you go. You can split it and do the study and pool sessions in the UK and the Open Water dives in Sharm. You can snorkle from the beach but for diving definately book some boat dives.

Quad biking in the desert definatley worth a go.

Sharm is fantastic for scuba diving or sun worshipping.

1) You don't need a visa if you are planning to stay in Sharm. When you get to the airport, you will see people queuing to buy them. It's not worth it. Whatever hotel your stay at, you will have access to Sharm Old Town, Sharks Bay, Naama Bay etc. If you plan a long excursion, away from the area, you will need one. Diving, quad biking, camel riding, star gazing etc are all within the local area.

2) You don't need to be qualified to dive (but it helps). A dive centre will be located at most hotels. If you are not qualified (or have never done it before), they will offer you a free go in the confines of the hotel pool. Then, they will offer you an introductory dive. This will be from the shore or boat depending on the company. A qualified instructor will accompany you (normally 1-2-1) for the dive, lasting about 20 minutes. Expect to pay in the region of £30-40.

3) If you want a really good experience (with a good standard of equipment, friendly instructors and a good dive site), look out for "Camel Diving". They are probably the best company to go with. They have their own hotel and headquarters at Naama Bay with a fantastic roof top bar. You will pay a few quid more but it is worth every penny.

My advice to you is to look into your PADI Open Water certificate before you go. It is cheaper to take in this country. You will complete some sessions in a local pool as well as a written assessment. You can if you want go on to complete your open water dives here as well (I believe there is a resevoir in Leicestershire that is used - but bloody cold!!). As an alternative, you have six months to complete your dives with a recognised PADI outlet anywhere in the world. Most dive centres are PADI.

Don't miss the oppertunity to dive out there. It is one of the best sites in the world.

Yeah, Stoney Cove at Stoney Stanton. Link. Yes, it is bloody cold. >_< I'd much rather dive in sunny Sharm.

Not much help to you though, JoeyB, as you're off on Sunday. :P

I've gone all cold just thinking about that. Very brave.

How many hot chocolates does it take to thaw out after that?
