Simi Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 Pick three sports and from each sport pick opponents that you would have loved to of seen play against each other in their prime, but couldn't because of the time they retired or whatnot. Football United Treble Winning XI vs Arsenal Unbeaten XI Tennis McEnroe vs Nadal Football Keegan's Sexy Newcastle Team vs Present United Squad. Go...
Uncle Albert Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 Football England '66 v England '06 Tennis Sampras v Nadal Football United 07/08 v United Treble
Finnegan Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 One for Sparky: Rugby Wales (circa 1975 - 1978) vs England (2003)
Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 This season's Barcelona against Spain's Euro 2008 team. You'd have to clone Puyol, Xavi and Iniesta. I'd be happy with that. Wouldn't need any others.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 Actually, another one would be: Lehmann, Lauren, Cole, Campbell, Toure, Pires, Vieira, Gilberto, Ljungberg, Henry, Bergkamp. vs Almunia, Sagna, Clichy, Toure, Gallas, Hleb, Fabregas, Flamini, Rosicky, Adebayor, Eduardo. Looking at the individual names in that second XI, they look far inferior but the football they were playing at times last season was breathtaking. Again, you'd have to clone Kolo.
Finnegan Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 I wouldn't consider Rosicky or Fabregas to be inferior to anyone in that side, I rate Gallas and Sagna too. But the absolute chasm in quality between Henry / Bergkamp and everyone else is something that's been noticable I feel.
dandannieldanok Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 Snooker: Steve Davis (80s) v Ronnie O'Sullivan Cycling (Road): Eddy Merckx v Lance Armstong Boxing: Muhammad Ali v Lennox Lewis

Ross-Kemp Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 Leicester last season vs Leicester this season.

Ultra Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 Leicester now vs. Leicester 02/03 Total mismatch. Only Tunchev from the current squad would have made it into the 03 promotion side.
Unabomber Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 Arsenal Invincibles V Manchester United Current
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 This is an enticing thread. Would agree with Ultra's '84 Windies V Aus '03. Golf Tiger now V Nicholus prime V Arnold Palmer prime V Norman prime. Sampras (prime) V Federer (prime) on all services Would also love to see Hewitt v Rafter played at Wimbeldon.

You'd also have to get Rosicky fit, which is as big a challenge as cloning Kolo.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 No Pat Cash? He can play Philipousis. Laver V Sampras would be awesome.
lildave3 Posted 5 January 2009 Posted 5 January 2009 You'd also have to get Rosicky fit, which is as big a challenge as cloning Kolo. The 03-04 side would shit all over last years bunch of tools.
