rico Posted 7 January 2009 Posted 7 January 2009 As these guys are about to be honoured with an Outstanding Contribution to Music Brit Award,i just wondered what people actually think of them. They are probably still one of the most talented songwriters around, does anyone agree?

Fosse Boy Posted 7 January 2009 Posted 7 January 2009 A bit ashamed to admit this, but if I'm channel hopping and stumble across on of their videos on VH1 Classic, then I'll usually continue watching their song.
Katy Posted 7 January 2009 Posted 7 January 2009 I loved them as a kid. Camped it up a bit too much in later years though.
Corky Posted 7 January 2009 Posted 7 January 2009 The lead singer, for some reason, has always reminded me of Scott Minto. I don't know why either And Chris Lowe is an Arse nal supporter
purpleronnie Posted 7 January 2009 Posted 7 January 2009 Its a little embarassing to say but I did like their early stuff, very english...I like that.

I don't know why either And Chris Lowe is an Arse nal supporter Scott Minto looks more like The Location, Location, Location bloke. Anyway....Rent although looking back there's something a bit dodgy about that song now.

Nick Posted 8 January 2009 Posted 8 January 2009 'Actually, Please and Disco' were good things went a bit 'west' - no pun intended after 'introspective' It's a sin, Suburbia, West End Girls were great tracks. Always on my mind was Christmas number 1 in '89 and they won best british group at the Brit Awards.....and....... I'll get my coat or else I'll be kicking in tables and knocking down chairs in a restaurant, in a west end town and you guys will be calling the police thinking there's a madman around running underground in a dive bar in a west end town.

Yep, I got their first three albums on 'tape' I remember my mum going mad when she heard that they'd covered an Elvis track
Lillehamring Posted 8 January 2009 Posted 8 January 2009 First album I ever brought how peculiar - not exactly the most obvious purchase of their work - i have it and there are some classics ('miserabilism' ) but there's also some very obscure, almost inaccessible stuff on there.... ....unless, of course, you're into really fruity europop

coale39 Posted 8 January 2009 Posted 8 January 2009 woah!yeah, um.... woah! It was in a bargain bin, was 50p and I liked the cover for some reason. If only I could turn back time I would have purchased good old George Michael.
Head Honcho Posted 8 January 2009 Posted 8 January 2009 Yep, I got their first three albums on 'tape' I remember my mum going mad when she heard that they'd covered an Elvis track You should remind your mum that the Elvis version was itself a cover version
Trav Le Bleu Posted 8 January 2009 Posted 8 January 2009 I bought West End Girls the 1st moment I heard it, one of my first singles. I still have it. Left To My Own Devices is one of my favourite Pop songs ever. A good singles band, but their albums were a bit weak.
rico Posted 8 January 2009 Author Posted 8 January 2009 They have also written and produced for some of the biggest names in music such as David Bowie,Dusty Springfield,Blur,Robbie Williams,Kylie and more recently The Killers and Girls Aloud
