fox123 Posted 10 February 2009 Posted 10 February 2009 I seen one family on Gmtv this morning that had lost their mum, dad and disabled brother... shocking stuff. You have to feel for the family's of the 200 or so people who have died, and no doubt many relatives of people in the UK as well.

Terrible incident, if it was caused maliciously then it really sickens me!! RIP, and condolences!!!
Thracian Posted 10 February 2009 Posted 10 February 2009 What kind of a person would do that on purpose. Its shocking. They need feeding to the sharks But they won't be. The human rights lobby will see to that. The perpetrators will cost people their lives, their health, their happiness and in many cases everything they own but, if culprits are caught, the state will face a further bill for looking after them. Not to mention the tab they'll have to pick up on behalf of the victims.

BoneDog Posted 10 February 2009 Posted 10 February 2009 I saw an interview with the pm who is around the area just talking and trying to console people, and in an interview if he couldn't hold back the tears.Normal people have seen and witnessed people burnt alive, kids dying, people lying dead in cars on the middle of the road. People trapped in towns as there is no way out. Is extremly bad. The one thing that should be applouded in situation like this, is the genorousity and compansantion of the human kind. There has been too many clothes donated, volunteers from far and wide helping do all they can. Firefighters being flown from America. Firefighters working 16 hour shifts even tho they have lost relatives in the fire. Even heard a bloke from londan call up a local radio station to donate money. A PM who shows real emotions? I wish we could have one of those in England. I saw someone burn to death right in front of me when I was sixteen and it f#cked me up for a while.

The 39-year-old was charged with arson causing death, for lighting a fire near Churchill in eastern Victoria state. The blaze killed at least 21 people. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has described Australia's deadliest bushfires as mass murder. At least 181 people were killed as the fires swept through Victoria in south-east Australia at the weekend. The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged on two counts of arson. He faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison for the deadly arson charge, and a maximum of 15 years for the second arson charge. He also faces unrelated charges of possessing child pornography. He did not appear in court in Morwell to hear the charges. His lawyer has described him as psychologically unwell and in a fragile mental state. Marysville's journey to hell After being remanded in custody, the man was transferred to the state capital Melbourne, police say for his own safety because of public anger. He will appear in court there on Monday. Victoria Police Commissioner Christine Nixon has said it was possible a devastating blaze that killed at least 15 people in the town of Marysville was also the work of arsonists. Marysville - a town that was virtually wiped out - remains cordoned off. Investigators are still scouring the town where 80% of buildings were destroyed, and they had not been able to identify and remove all bodies, State Premier John Brumby said.

Pathetic. The state shouldn't pick up the tab for anyone who commits such a crime. It's akin to lunacy and a complete waste of money that could be far better spent on helping rebuild some of the lives he's ruined.

I mean there can't be any forensic evidence can there? The prosecution would have to rely on eye witnesses and the like. I wouldn't be so sure, we have had bushfire convictions in the past.
