Babylon Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 I'm currently house hunting and I keep seeing lots of reasonably priced house for sale in Hamilton. What's this area like? I know it's all new builds so it's probably a bit cramped around there. What are the roads to avoid, what type of people are there, what are the public services like etc etc.
dandannieldanok Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 I did a geography project on Hamilton not long ago, it is quite cramped, they've tried to get as many houses built as possible which isn't surprising. Think most of the people out there are young families. Apart from Tesco and a few schools, there isn't much to Hamilton apart from houses. I'm sure someone who lives there or has lived there can give you a better insight than that though.
Samilktray Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Stereotyped as being rough but its not at all really. A lot of my family live in and around the area so I'm in the area alot, obviously has Tescos there and alot of other shops. Houses are all quite nice and the areas clean enough, cant think of much more to say.

The Saff, Braunstone, Wigston, Birstall... etc I'm from Wigston so I don't have a clue about that side of town really.
Finnegan Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 We're going to be househunting the moment I've got a job. I've got the deposit and first month saved up so as soon as I can assure an income we're moving in somewhere (couple of mates and I.) One of them's trying to drive us out to Hamilton but we'd rather live closer to the city. (Walking distance of a piss up, please.)

Birstall from the choices you said, and I've always seen Birstall as not being rough at all.

Finnegan Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Birstall from the choices you said, and I've always seen Birstall as not being rough at all. Birstall's gotten worse but only because of the sheer number of teenage chavs that can amass in one group to terrorize the local shops. If you're not old or don't work in McColl's you're probably safe. Come on Finners move out there... if it's shit at least I won't be alone Come to LE1/LE2!
Babylon Posted 17 February 2009 Author Posted 17 February 2009 Come on... someone has to live there!!! Must be a bloody ghost town!!!
Zingari Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 The original village of Hamilton was wiped out by the bubonic plague in the 14th century, and some say it's still infected in the ground , that's why houses are cheap "bring out yer dead" is the village motto
JakeShingler Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Well i live in the Estate near it and i went Hamilton School, and it's pretty sound not rough at all theres a Tesco Sainburrys Aromo(Probaly the best Chinnese in Leicester) A chippy A Garage even a temple but Hamilton is so big there a bit of a trek to walk from one to the other and there is also a fishing lake. In terms of the people that live there it's all mixed really as there is a temple i think the majoriaty are religious. If you have any questions just ask me.

What's the public transport like... are there buses into town?

What's the public transport like... are there buses into town? No no pub but im sure they'll build one soon. And yes the 58 goes through Hamilton then on to town. Btw theres a McDonalds about a 2min walk from Tesco and theres a pub near there.
Samilktray Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Theres a pub about 10 or 15mins from Hamilton in Thurnby Lodge. Shingler will probably have a better idea of the distance, decent pub though.

Yeh The Manor quality pub these days i would say a 15 min walk. But theres one in Humberstone wich is only a 5 or 10mins away. Also a few working mens clubs.
Edmund Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Picture milton Keynes in a housing estate Like others have said, the housing is very cramped hence the prices. I personally don't like the area hardly any character and no pub surely that says it all. The landmarks are tesco's and roundabouts. Stay in Wigston mate.

They're a dying breed now-a-days, I went in the Braunstone one a few weeks ago (opposite Jaguar Garage); talk about dead, Harold was with Mavis chewing on their false teeth, old Bill was playing Dominoes with Roy who stuck of piss and the bar maid, with her 80's perm and fag stained fingers, speaking like she'd just smoked 40 Royals at the same time... shame really if the perm wasn't there I'd of tapped it up.
