But he's been in English football long enough to know how the tabloids operate.

The FA Cup is his only real hope of a trophy this year.

This thread is ridiculous. He mentioned literally in passing how it seemed a little bit silly but thems the rules, he wasn't even complaining.

Er yes he was.

And that depends on whether Man Utd go out to Inter in the EC. If they do, their season might collapse. If they don't, they'll be desperate to win 4 trophies.

Easy there Ultra.

"The logic is not obvious - he played for a team that cannot play in the competition anymore," Wenger said ahead of Tuesday's first leg.

"But we cannot complain because we knew that when we bought him."

I don't see exactly what he's said that's wrong other than that the logic behind the rule is off, which it arguably is?

The interview on sky sports, he said "He should be allowed to play" to me, that's moaning that he can't play.

I'm not certain, but I'm fairly sure he was asked about it, so having a dig is a bit much?

He is a twat.

What you having a dig for? You're not allowed an opinion on here.

The cup tied rule is daft.

If the team a players played for are out of the competition, then what bearing will it have if he plays for a different team.

Abso-bloody-exactly

I hate all the shit about "wah wah wah Arsenal's all foreigners."

People need to stop trying to pass the buck to the likes of Wenger - Wenger plays within the rules. He's an absolute genius of a manager (and a prize tool, sure) and is doing what he's allowed to do to try and win.

The Spanish and the Italians have managed a decent culture of keeping their league relatively full of their own players, as have the Dutch and Germans. Sure they've got foreign players but I don't think there are many clubs with the same excesses as Arsenal and the like over here. But they've got different rules on what foreign nationals can be registered and how many home grown players they have.

Our FA have nothing like that. It's really them you should be pointing the finger at, them and greed in general.

There are plenty of reasons to think Wenger's a tool - his developing umpteen foreign youngsters shouldn't be one of them, imo.

I see what you did there. Hey, I'm only saying it's a shitty reason to knock him that was blown out of all proportion by the media for god knows what reason. Like Finnegan (sort of) just said, there's about 50 much better reasons to dislike him.

Wenger WAS a genius of a manager.

But his team has been in decline for the last five years, and to date he's shown little sign he can stop that decline, let alone reverse it.

Whatever quality players may emerge from the youth system, they will not be retained if they feel they have a better chance of honours elsewhere. The prospect of Europa League football won't exactly tempt them to stay either.

Another trophy-free season, and large sections of the fanbase (and therefore the board) will start to question their faith in Wenger.

There has to be a limit on how long 60000 fans will continue to pay some of the highest prices in the Premier League for such comparatively little reward.

And if, as is quite possible, Spurs retain the League Cup, the discontent at their neighbours will only increase.

I just think, throughout most sports, managers and often players have a natural life cycle at any one club and I think sometimes it's just time for a change. I don't believe Wenger's lost it, I just think he needs to move on.

There are very, very few examples of managers who have done what Fergie has done and consistently re-invented himself at one club.

As much as we were all sad he left I think O'Neill's an example of staying-long-enough without staying-too-long. I think, if Benitez wins nothing this season, he'll be reaching about the peak of what he can achieve at Liverpool. He's not a bad manager, he won things both there and at Valencia but there's a general sense his time's about up.

The classic example, for me, is in rugby. Dean Richards managed incredible feats with the Tigers squad, broke endless records - but eventually it unsettled and it was time for him to move on. I don't think it's an ill reflection of him as a manager and he's come on strong with Quins and proven that he's still got it.

I think Wenger's a very intelligent man, like him or not, and I think he could rebuild himself elsewhere. I just think it's evident for a couple of years now that Arsenal need a fresh change.
