He's not bald Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 My brother's car has been clamped this afternoon along with 5 other cars on the car park of a Retail Unit on Western Road and it cost him £120 to get it removed. He has parked there for the last 3 years without a problem. The clamping firm apparently put up warning signs a couple of weeks ago and filmed it,they then took them down before he parked there and replaced them while he was at the football, they are real cowboys with attitude and liable to repeat this on any off road parking areas so beware! Of course I am not implicating the retail outlet as being complicent in this money making scam!
Flynny Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 I remember hearing that a ridiculous percentage of clampings aren't legally enforceable- these certainly don't sound like they were. "In England and Wales, wheel-clampers operating on private land must be individually licensed by the Security Industry Authority. Operating in such circumstances without a valid license, or in breach of its conditions (which include displaying ID at all times), is a criminal offence under the Private Security Industry Act, 2001." I bet they weren't.
nickm Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 stop parking on other peoples property then how would you like it if a stranger came and parked his car on your driveway?
DB11 Posted 7 March 2009 Posted 7 March 2009 Why pay the fine? Why don't you confirm it is legitimate first

Whether it would mean less of these sorts of incidents I don't know but it might enable people to relieve a lot of frustration.

Arse hole. i wish i was in the parking industry mate 'cos i would make sure all this illegal parking was punished, i once lived near the cricket ground and it was a nightmare trying to park even near my house on matchday--having said that i bet the knob who started this thread will watch where he parks next time!
Webbo Posted 8 March 2009 Posted 8 March 2009 Why pay the fine? Why don't you confirm it is legitimate first Because they have a clamp on his car, he can't use it until it's removed.

It was not illeagal, and it hadn't been for three years! They parked and the signs were not there and when they came back they were and the car had been clamped. Surely if clamping signs are not there when you park a car then it isnt illeagal. The clamping company put the signs up weeks ago apparently but when they parked there were no signs. That is not fair. Would you like it if you parked on the side of a road and then when you came back suddenly it is illeagal? Would you be ok with that? No.

No. THE POINT I'M MAKING IS HE WAS PARKED ON SOMEBODY ELSES PROPERTY IE: SOMEBODY ELSE PAYS THE RENT AND RATES ON IT AND JUST BECAUSE THE OWNER HASN'T BOTHERED ENFORCING IT BEFORE DOESN'T MAKE IT OK TO DO IT--THAT'S WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY, SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE NO RESPECT FOR OTHERS AND IF I'M OK JACK WELL THAT MAKES IT OK!

No. If it's private property, it doesn't matter if you've been parking there for 3 days, 3 months, or 3 years. It's wrong. Whilst the clamping may or may not be illegal, the owners of the land could always sue you for trespass instead.

Then took them down again and put them back up while they were gone thats bad
