To uni or not to uni?

I think it really depends what profession you want to aim for and what uni you are thinking of applying for. I think in the current climate it is a good choice because you will come out of it when the economy picks up again, I do think that will take around 3 years until the big recruitment drives really kick start again.

I really want to do a masters in London. University is hugely rewarding and the mentality of learning something you are really interested in is hugely rewarding. So long as you're not one of these people who just aimlessly sign up to a shit course at a shit uni then I would say it is an ideal time to go to University.

If you do go the one thing I look back on in retrospect is not having picked up a couple of other qualifications along the way. For example I could have taken my Project Management professional exams, or if you do accounting etc you could take the bottom level CIMA exams. These would give you an even better leg up onto the employment ladder when you finish.

Starting in Sheffield in September and wish it would be tomorrow. Decided to take a year out which at the time seemed a good idea with an excellent paid job but after getting shifts cut and then them

disappearing around Nov- Jan it was Hell. Got a 2nd job now which helps and hopefully in the summer I'll claim

my original shifts back.

Just sorting out accomdstion and finance for next year now.

Yeah I am a dirty first yearer. (I hope you have Tor... he is what makes journalism so good! )

I actually didnt enjoy that one as much as I have others. Maybe it was becuase I felt pressure, as someone who loves sport, and writes about sport (I do match reports for the American Football team in the Demon, and am doing the rugby varsity.)

This year in journalism has been good. Media has been stale this year for me.

As I get to choose my topics in media next year, I hope its better than this year, which has been a bit dry, especially as I havent found much of the media side interesting.

DMU does seem to have excellent facilities, and they are always investing in new computing. Their teaching is good too. They havent got nobodies, but at the same time, they dont have people who are hugely known. they have people with solid knowlegde and experience.

I did have Tor in the first year and he injected plenty of enthusiasm and energy in to the course. The second term of the first year I had Andy, but this year, David is our new tutor - he's a bit unsure of himself.

In the second year you'll get to have a bit more freedom when it comes to writing articles rather than the rigid structure you have to follow. Have you got Ali Haynes for Media Law? I think she's quality.

Seeing as this is my second time at DMU, I can certainly see it's improved in terms of facilities. Some people are quick to deride the uni but I think it's rapidly gaining a good reputation for itself.

I remember saying in a different thread that I ballsed up first time I went to uni because I simply chose the wrong course. I also feel with the benefit of having worked full time for a few years and being a little bit older, my attitude is more focused and I'm determined to come out with a decent degree.

Ahhh big D (as we call him) he sat in our lectures with ali, and we had him for one seminar. He knows his stuff, but he needs that experience and confidence in order to be a good lecturer and tutor.

Ali is a class act, her lectures are good cos she doesnt drone on and on, she uses examples all the time (crapping it for her exam though)

DMU is a great place, and its close to 'Mecca', so it cant be bad!

Bristol uni is full of cretins. Living in Bristol for 20 years almost put me off going uni for life. Bunch of ****** who have the money for oxford but not the brains trotting round in butters scarves, kissing their male friends on the cheek to greet them and guffawing about the girl they're gunna have over for 'supper'. Most the UWE lads seem to be alright though, any students I chatted to at any decent nights would generally be UWE boys.

It's about 50/50, half are definitely like that, it's pretty rough.

In all my time at uni, I never saw any hot lezzers get it done, freakee-stylee.

Did you ever visit the gay and lesbian society?

That was the funniest thing I noticed in the student union when I first came to England to go to Uni.

We all sneakingly stared the sign on the door and laughed in utter disbelief. It was unthinkable to have anything of the sort at our universities back home at the time. Times have changed...
