Koke Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 He can certainly improve, but at the moment he is by far the weakest link in our team. I honestly can't remember the last time he had a good game. I still think he'll come good with age.
MC Prussian Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 I think these goals were much sexier in real life, especially Dyer's and Howard's. Of course, it's always nice to see them in slow-mo or pausing the video whenever needed.
Thracian Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 That Gradel run was probably the best bit of individual brilliance I've seen from a Leicester winger right back to the likes of Derek Hogg. Not just the perfectly weighted flick over the full-back's head but the calm authority in taking the ball to the byline and pulling an inch-perfect pass back onto Howard's right foot. The style reminded me of the legendary Stanley Matthews for a moment. As for Mattock I'd really love him to succeed but have always had my reservations and, so far this season, he's done nothing to suggest he's improving. I never saw why he was fast-tracked, why a top club would have bid for him or what special qualities he had that seemed to set him apart from any number of promising players. Yes he was a solid member of an outstanding youth team but even at reserve level, while there seemed little in it defensively he never had nearly the same impact as Sheehan as an attacker. I thought that might change. One or two youth games - particularly once against Crystal Palace - showed what he might be capable of if he could develop the strength and confidence to repeat it at senior level. But against that were his questionable reading of the game and vulnerability both when needing to recover quickly and against anyone attacking him head on at pace. Yes he's still young but he's quite experienced now and, while King, having cocked-up big time against Carlisle, seemed to learn from that immediately, and while Gradel seems to be making better choices and more impact as he goes along, Mattock seems to have stalled. Yes, he deserves praise for recovering from yesterday's calamity to have a solid second half and one that perhaps saw him attacking more than usual. He made some amends for his foul by providing Gradel with the pass from which we scored the third but will he keep being so positive or will he gradually slip back into Joe Average mould. I hope not. Cos only Mattock at his very best will see him through to a good level career. He needs to be the Mattock who does have the stamina to support attacks and the vision and technique to play a decent pass quickly. Factors which will add some plus points to an, as yet, steady but not exceptional defender.
samuel Posted 12 April 2009 Posted 12 April 2009 What a ridiculous comment Not as ridiculous as saying "I'd happily sell him if we got a decent bid for him". The selling of players is nothing to do with you, you have no sway in the transfer goings on at LCFC. Young english leftbacks are going to be premium commidities in the coming years with the impending maximum foreigner rule. We have a young (18 years old!!!) Under 21 England International at our club, who I suspect will get better, a lot better as time goes on. He will be an asset to this club, whether it be for his playing ability or a financial one in a few years. So please just tell me why you would happily sell him now, whilst he is at 18, plays for the Under 21 International side occasionally, we don't really need the money, we are heading back to the championship and have no adequate, long term replacement in situ?. Stick to cooking and cleaning...Leave the football to the chaps!!!

Ive told you my reasonings..... something you failed to do while delivering your little one-liner. Oh very mature..... Stick to playing with your toys eh... leave the football to the grown ups.

I'm not convinced about Mattock. He hasn't made the same level of progress as King or Gradel have. There are still areas of his game which he needs to work on.
teblin Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 on the mattock issue, anyone else notice dyers dip in form when berner was no longer playing left back.
