welck12 Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 I'm thinking of going to a gig there at start of july, but seen as i ususally avoid london like the plague i have no idea about the place. Any one know much about the place? easy access? atmosphere? Any help would be appreciated

Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 It's in Angel (very close to the Tube) so yeah easy access, particularly if you arrive into Kings Cross/St Pancras or Euston which judging by your location is likely. Never been there but I know it used to be the Carling Academy. Generally they're pretty standard venues, nothing to write home about, potentially quite small compared to some of the bigger arenas. Atmosphere depends on who you're seeing!

If you come in to London at Euston or Kings Cross it's a piece of piss to get to. Two stops from Euston, one from Kings Cross, both on the Northern Line (Angel Tube Station)

Well technically it was down the road in Camden, but never try and use a cash machine while on your own after 7pm, some druggie jumped on me and held me hostage for an hour, took £20 out my bank and kept it and gave me aa scrunched up Rizzla packet and told me there was drugs in it. He was a twat and made a phone call from my phone as well

Is there anything particualarly good there?

To be fair Kentish Town and Camden are actually pretty rough. I used to live in Archway which is a bit further north. Camden especially is quite renowned for muggings. That said - Lamby you pussy.

Benji Posted 30 May 2009 Posted 30 May 2009 Next to my uni, it's part of the shopping complex with a cinema next door, waga mama and a weatherspoons/lloyds called the glassworks. Pretty small venue and it's usually used for upcoming indie bands, the place is always heaving with 15-18 year olds dressed for the music! Decent enough though if the band is worth it.
