The Ashes 2005.

Was in town today, and whilst I was in poundland (The one on the same street as Argos) looking for some bargs, and in there I seen the Official box set of the 2005 series, for a whole quid! Any cricket fans out there who don't already have this, should certainly go try and get it.

Got it myself. It's class.

Can remember this series very well, loved it to be honest. Really got me into cricket properly.

Will always remember Harmison's slow ball yorker near the end of the day to get rid of Clarke? Brilliant.

Pretty much everyone I play cricket with got given this for either their birthday or Christmas in '05. lol

Awesome series, and similarly awesome bargain DVD at that price.

Won this at Sileby Aths Christmas raffle. Yet to watch it but when I do I'm sure many memories will come back, only month I;ve ever really been interested in cricket. Yes Bandwagoner!

I think it was the same for many up and down the country. lol

The day after we won at The Oval I walked around Harborough and there were kids playing with a bat and ball in every park across town. Unbelievable given that we were already a month odd into the football season. What happened to them?

Perhaps if the centrally contracted players had spent some more time on working, preparing and trying to retain The Ashes in the following eighteen months instead of revelling in their newfound celebrity status, and the ECB hadn't deprived terrestrial viewers of live cricket by selling out to Sky Sports then some of these bandwagoners may still be following cricket as avidly today, and we'd be seeing kids playing cricket in every park up and down the land over the summer.

Best Test series I've ever seen (but I enjoyed the West Indies series in 2000).

Every Test, bar the first, was a gripper.

Went to the second day at Trent Bridge, what an atmosphere!

Absolute bargain for that price. I remember buying mine for around £20 as soon as it came out.

It's always great to relive the memories of that summer. Hopefully we can have another summer like it this year.

Absolutley love that Poundland. 2 bottles of Pepsi, quid. 10 bags of Doritos, quid. Ashes 2005, quid. I'm not a fan of cricket and i'd snap that shit up.

The one in Beaumont Leys sells porn dvds too!

I even went down the nets with some lads the next day with no idea what I was doing lol but it just felt so right.

Let's Just lame Sky I say mate, again.

It's a shame because Sky's coverage is much better than Channel Four's was. No visiting the Horse racing on a Saturday afternoon, just every ball and in-depth coverage.

But C4 had Richie Benaud

Gotta say I disagree. Yeah, Sky Sports have the big name presenters and they do a half decent job, but for me Channel 4 brought cricket to the layman, the guy on the street who hardly had any knowledge of the game. It acknowledged that not every man, woman and child in the country understood or cared about cricket, and dumbed down (for want of a better word) to help attract a greater audience to Test matches on TV (and obviously boost their own ratings too). Simon Hughes' analysis in particular was always insightful and engaging for first time viewer and cricket lover alike.

Also for me, the Cricket Roadshow was the best thing ever scheduled on C4 on a Saturday morning, apart from Gazzetta Football Italia of course.

Your dislike for anything Sky related doesn't show in that post. lol

"half decent job" "dumbed down" utter rubbish.

I'll take your Simon Hughes and raise you a Mark Nicholas possibly the most annoying man ever, cast off from Sky.

As for them acknowledging people who don't know about cricket.. http://www.skysports.com/cricket/willowandstumpy :P

Agree, Cricket was really on the verge of claiming a place on its own as THE summer sport. ECB made a massive error.

Maybe Ricky and his boys can pick up a few copies for you lot back in Oz whilst they're shopping in Leicester?

Na i'm happy with my 06/07 DVD it's not a box set tho.........cos there was mainly just highlights of Australaia dominating.

Donated by whom?

I certainly got my use out of it before I gave it to the raffle. Brilliant Test Series and I had the pleasure of going Edgebaston on the first day to see England hit 400! lol

Wish I was there for Freddie's over to Ponting now that was brilliant. Remember watching the Third Test like near enough every ball for the last 3 days, how we didnt win that Test I will never know.

Can't wait for this years and I just wish it was on C4 loved the commentators on there.

The whole sky sports and terestrial tv debate is weird one, i can see the point of view of that Sky has once again paid over what the terestrials tv will be willing to pay, and the fact it was on channel four meant that those not interested in cricket could watch it.

2005 had the nation gripped it was like no other, however Sky has brought so many different features for the cricket, even though they should have bought Simon Hughes as well. I don't like the way Sky builds up football and only see's four teams i would hate the cricket to get like that, but I don't think it ever will due to the popularity.

Yes the ashes will bring a lot more viewers and yes it is maybe denying others from see it, but the same coverage and technology of which channel four didn't have is there at any match they cover whether it be England V Austrailia or Durham V Sussex.

As long as it keeps the right commentators and keeps the enjoyment to the viewer keep it on sky.

Oh and 2005 Ashes was awesome.
