Lillehamring Posted 16 June 2009 Posted 16 June 2009 Sort of. Lived there for 20 years. In Spain at the moment but Ill be back there for a few months in July. Yeah it's probably on the decline to be honest. What were in my opinion the 4 best clubs have closed down. When the 3 that are on this road (stokes croft) go (which is soon) there wil be only 2 decent clubs of any capacity left in the city, and both of those are a mission from the centre. Academy is fooking gash, it gets some quality line-ups but there's no soul to the place and the atmosphere these days is always shit. All the record shops have closed apart from Rooted on Gloucester Road. The fook off huge festival that was the highlight of the year and had all the best bands and DJs in Bristol has gone. There's still a lot of good music coming out of the city though and some good nights here and there. Drum n Bass is still pretty healthy but lost a lot of its thunder to dubstep which is very big, best outside of London imo. The hip-hop is pretty shit nowadays to be honest. Like everywhere though. Uk hip-hop is in a fooking timewarp. Exactly the same acts getting booked that were 5,7,10 years ago. Not too much fresh talent around imo. christ, it sounds liek leicester
James. Posted 16 June 2009 Posted 16 June 2009 christ, it sounds liek leicester The scene in Bristol shits all over Leicester from a fucking massive height. Even though it may have deteriorated recently it still has a good community feeling and decent nights if you look around. Leicester can't even put on one decent dnb night anymore. Formation used to be alright but they seem to have dried up along with the rest of the scene.

Its good if your into jump up, got Genetic doing there thing at Music Cafe but no good liquid nights as such. Actually to be fair Superfly get the odd name in had Alix Perez down a while back and theres another club (can't remember the name) had London Elektricity down. Londons where it's at really. Head Honcho Posted 16 June 2009 Posted 16 June 2009 I will be in attendance at this exhibition on Saturday followed by many drinks and a bit of Rugby for afters. Cheers Weathers looking good too this weekend.
Finchy Posted 16 June 2009 Posted 16 June 2009 I'd have to say this is his best piece, absolute genius. Went to the Cans festival and some of the stuff was great there, like this ... Going to this one in Bristol when it's calmed down at bit should be good, he really is good.
James. Posted 17 June 2009 Posted 17 June 2009 --> Quality We Fear Silence night at The Arches Yes mate, I will be there!
Trav Le Bleu Posted 17 June 2009 Posted 17 June 2009 It's free.Free is my favourite word. I could give you a free punch in the gob if you like. We could even call it art. Banksy is a genius though.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 17 June 2009 Posted 17 June 2009 There's some stupidly amazing grafitti artist's out there, how they do some of the stuff they do I'll never know. SWOON: MAC: JAZI: Just ridiculous how skilled some people are.
Finchy Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 ...Love Swoon! My favourite Street Artist is probably JR though, it's just unbelievable work.

Shrenchel Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 ...Love Swoon! My favourite Street Artist is probably JR though, it's just unbelievable work. Absolutely. JR is sick. In terms of pure art his work is so much better than Banksy. It's just Banksy's sociopolitical take that's got everyone strumming themselves.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 June 2009 Posted 18 June 2009 JR is quality. I think Seak's pretty special too.
Head Honcho Posted 19 June 2009 Posted 19 June 2009 So, anyone going to this tomorrow fancy a pint afterwards? I should be hitting it about 10ish and probably spend a couple of hours there before hitting the pubs.
Head Honcho Posted 22 June 2009 Posted 22 June 2009 Got there bang on 10am Unfortunately 400 others got there before me Now it's been advertised on the one show I'll have no chance of getting in without queueing for the best part of two hours. They shoulda charged an entrance fee to keep all the riff raff away
Wycombe Fox Posted 22 June 2009 Posted 22 June 2009 Gutted! I went to this exhibition expecting to see his World Cup medal and career memorabilia on display. Thought there might have been an old City shirt there as well. Might even have met the hero himself. ****ing rip-off!
Flynny Posted 22 June 2009 Posted 22 June 2009 If anyone does go by, the big Gothic-churchy building next door is my where my department is. And yet I never did go in the museum.
AMYB101_LCFC Posted 23 June 2009 Posted 23 June 2009 My favourite Bansky mural on Park Street has been defaced now! Stupid peoples! Link picture painted by the artist Banksy has been vandalised with blue paint pellets fired from a paintball gun.The image on the side of a building on Park Street in Bristol shows a naked man hanging out of a window. The city council ran a public vote in 2006 asking people whether the mural should stay or be removed - 93% of people voted that it should remain. Bristol Museum is currently showing an exhibition of his work which runs for 12 weeks from 13 June. Councillor Gary Hopkins, of Bristol City Council, said: "I'm disappointed but unfortunately not surprised. "People are built up and then there are always some people who want to drag them back down again. "I think the turning point in his reputation was when we decided to keep this piece of work but maybe that destroyed his street cred."
