cheers...so 1 pound + per litre for petrol

If you're lucky - it seems to be going up daily.

Unless you're near a big supermarket that sells the stuff - I paid £1.06 yesterday.

If you're going to rent a car, consider a diesel; I have just returned from the UK and I rented a VW Golf 2.0D and that got 52 miles to the gallon (11.4 miles per litre). I always use KeyDrive where they meet you at the airport "arrivals" and you're on your way in no time. ;)

I'd say that a loaf of bread is more likely to be around £1.10-1.30 although maybe Sparky buys the half-loaf or supermarket's own brand.

Was a guess , i only have to put diesel in the van and thats crept up to around £1.15

:D Just for everyones interest (or maybe not) the current price for a litre of unleaded here in OZ is $1.14, which equates to approx 54p i think.

I did rant when I realised the price that you pay. Sir Fynwy then went on to explain we pay more because of tax, and made things worse.

From what I could see in Sydney, things are pretty much comparable in pricing, apart from pubs, and as long as you're not drinking in London, or somewhere touristy or poncey, you may find going to the pub a bit cheaper. Unless Perth is cheaper than Sydney, then I could be wrong! lol

Not everything. Europe is particularly expensive now (I'm not talking about Eastern Europe mind) - and electrical items are actually a lot cheaper here than in Europe and in parts of Asia.
