lavrentis Posted 12 July 2009 Author Posted 12 July 2009 Will review this tonight, nice to see you negatively describe your own song That was off one of my reviews (or are you on about the track 3 thing)
Asha Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 That was off one of my reviews (or are you on about the track 3 thing) I was on about the 'just another song about a girl' thing, which you'd somehow copied from your review of mine.
lavrentis Posted 12 July 2009 Author Posted 12 July 2009 I was on about the 'just another song about a girl' thing, which you'd somehow copied from your review of mine.
StanSP Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 Don't need to download any . Lavrentis has good taste! 1. Inme - Far Reaching 6/10 Not my favourite InMe song, but one that I can still listen to. Nothing compared to So You Know, 7 weeks or Chamber. 2. Funeral for a Friend - Streetcar 7/10 One of their few songs which, when first heard I didn't like. But after a few more listens, it grew on me. I thought the phone thing at the start was a bit tacky and cheesy. But now I don't mind it . Quite like FFAF anyway. 3. Killswitch Engage - My Curse 7/10 I can't see many people liking this at all, but I do, because I've heard so much more screamier and heavier stuff . And there are times where I couldn't stand this, but today I can . 4. Paramore - Born for This 8/10 Hayley Williams is a goddess . I love her and all her music. Every song had some kind of deeper meaning relating to the past or present. And this isn't any different. Good track. 5. Saosin - 3rd Measurement in C 6/10 Sounds alot like Seven Years, especially when the first bit of lyrics/vocals start. Not bad, but they've done so much better. 6. Senses Fail - Every Day Is A Struggle 5/10 Haven't heard any of their other stuff...this is the only song I have of theirs. I try and listen to it and enjoy it more, but it's just not happening . 7. Dance Gavin Dance - And I told them I Invented Times New Roman 7/10 Sounds like KSE, but alright nonetheless. Who's the vocalist for this?? Sounds very similar to a song I know but I don't know which! 8. Escape the Fate - When I Go Out, I Want To Go Out On A Chariot of Fire 7/10 Like alot . Ever since I first listened to it, it's one that if I want to listen to heavy stuff, this one always comes to mind. Sometimes reminds me of MCR. 9. Rise Against - Voices Off Camera 7/10 Sounds abit like Like THe Angel, which is my fave RA song. So I like this anyway. And the voice of the vocalist is good to listen to. Probably one of the best things about this band. Kinda heavy stuff, but easy to listen to. And clear . 10. You Me At Six - Save it for the Bedroom 9/10 One of my fave songs off their album Take OFf Your Colours. One band which I would like to see soon. I love mostly all of their tracks, mainly their slower ones, but tracks like this and Nasty Habits are also good to listen to. 11. Enter Shikari - Hectic 9/10 ES and YM@6 are two of my favourite bands around these days. This track is one of the best across their new album - No Sleep Tonight is my fave. The best thing about this song is the drop about 20 seconds in. Doesn't sound like ti should work after 20 seconds of chaotic vocals, but everything on their album doesn't sound like it should, but they pull it off. 12. Yellowcard - The Takedown 8/10 Flows well, but doesn't reach the standards of Ocean Avenue or Breathing.. Still good to listen to 13. Reuben - Everytime a Teenager Listens to Drum & Bass A Rockstar Dies 6/10 Firstly, funny song title . Vocalist sounds like he's trying a bit too hard. But an alright song. 14. Avenged Sevenfold - Lost /10 Great song from start to finish. Unholy Confessions is better . Such a powerful voice though. Overall, I like virtually all of the songs, and 3 of the songs on here are from 3 of my favourite bands, so I knew when I saw the list that I thought it would be good . So best mix I've listened to so far. Good stuff
Libertine Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 So best favourite mix I've listened to so far. Good stuff Doing this in a sec.
Libertine Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 1. Inme - Far Reaching 6/10 Liked the chorus, the fuzzy guitars are decent. As a whole it's not for me. 2. Funeral for a Friend - Streetcar 5/10 Never really got into these. It's fine, nothing offensive. 3. Killswitch Engage - My Curse 7/10 Nice intro, cracking riffage when it kicks in. Don't really like the pinch harmonics, vocals are fine enough. Favourite so far. Bit too long IMO. 4. Paramore - Born for This 6/10 I don't hate this band as much as I should and I can stand a few of their tracks, but I don't really like this. Gets a bit better later on. Find it a bit repetitive that's all. 5. Saosin - 3rd Measurement in C 4/10 Nah, didn't get into it at all. Passed me by completely. 6. Senses Fail - Every Day Is A Struggle 5/10 Same as above. Hated the lyrics. 7. Dance Gavin Dance - And I told them I Invented Times New Roman 3/10 Reaaally didn't like this. Way too long too. 8. Escape the Fate - When I Go Out, I Want To Go Out On A Chariot of Fire 5/10 Don't like the vocals. Some of the guitar is fine. Wait, 4 minutes? Hmm, skippy skip. Sorry but for me these kind of songs should be 2/2.30 max. 9. Rise Against - Voices Off Camera 8/10 I don't mind Rise Against actually. Like this a lot. Nothing spectacular but I enjoyed it. 10. You Me At Six - Save it for the Bedroom 5/10 I'm still listening to the last track currently but I know I'm not going to like this one. And I didn't really, wasn't awful though. 11. Enter Shikari - Hectic 2/10 Hated the intro. Hate this music and this band anyway but I'll give it a chance.... No, DO NOT WANT. 12. Yellowcard - The Takedown 7/10 Yeh this is alright. Second part of the chorus is cool. Good solo. Quite liked it. 13. Reuben - Everytime a Teenager Listens to Drum & Bass A Rockstar Dies 6/10 So dreading this because of the title. Didn't like the intro thing at all, but when it got going I didn't mind it at all. Too long for me again though. Nice outro. 14. Avenged Sevenfold - Lost 8/10 Loved the guitars. Preferred it before the vocals came in but I like this. Didn't expect because I fucking hate what I've heard before of AS. Ooh, don't like that vocal effect near the end. Sounds like Cher. Nice guitar again now. Really good end to the mix IMO. OVERALL: Didn't hate it, didn't love it. I think a bit of variety would've been better, a few softer tracks here and there. Luckily I already knew the kind of stuff you're into so it didn't come as a big shock to me. Check out Alkaline Trio and Nada Surf, lav. Think you'll like a bit of them judging by this mix.
Asha Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 Downloading now. Really looking forward to listening to this, hope it delivers.
lavrentis Posted 12 July 2009 Author Posted 12 July 2009 Haa Lib Enter Shikari's like marmite tbh and I'll tell you the truth, I completely forgot about Alkaline Trio, quality band. I have never listened to Nada Surf though, I will give them a spotify. Thanks for the review though. Hope it delivers too Ash.
Asha Posted 12 July 2009 Posted 12 July 2009 1. Inme - Far Reaching Liked the vocals in this, the guitar was quite nice as well. Decent start 7/10 2. Funeral for a Friend - Streetcar Was alright until the echoed, different voices saying 'I can't feel the same about you anymore'...that really wasn't necessary. The rest of the song was quite likable though. Will give this a comfortable 7/10 as well. 3. Killswitch Engage - My Curse Bit screamo. Maybe a little too much so for me. And as Lib said, went on a bit too long. 5/10 4. Paramore - Born for This Believe it or not, I've never heard a Paramore song. I've google imaged the lead singer a few times though . And this is really good, lively but flows well. HW has a really nice voice, quality song. I'm virtually in love with the chorus. Question is, would I be searching through my music at some point in the future and think...I wanna listen to 'Born for this'. Yes, yes I would. 9/10 5. Saosin - 3rd Measurement in C 2 and a half minutes was about all I could take of that in truth. 3/10 6. Senses Fail - Every Day Is A Struggle ....."I love you so much that I started praying"....Done that before. Nothing really dislikable but it wasn't top level special for me. 8/10 7. Dance Gavin Dance - And I told them I Invented Times New Roman Again, a little too raaaaaaaaaar for me. There's only so much of this type of music I can take before it annoys me. 5/10 8. Escape the Fate - When I Go Out, I Want To Go Out On A Chariot of Fire Reminded me of Fall Out Boy for some reason, probably just the singer that does that. Doesn't really grab me this. I think I like music to grab me, caress me and release me in a euphoric high. This, well, doesn't. 5/10 9. Rise Against - Voices Off Camera A little better this, love the fast beat, and as it's a bit shorter there's less time to gradually dislike it. 7/10 10. You Me At Six - Save it for the Bedroom Really enjoyed this, could do with being a touch shorter though. I think it's really effective though how the same four words are repeated quite a few times...means it gets quite catchy. 8/10 11. Enter Shikari - Hectic Not listened to Enter Shikari before either, but I've heard good things. Originally thought it was just more of the same but this woke up to be something spectacular. The tune is absolutely brilliant, differs quite a bit throughout. You get a complete mixed bag in one song, which I really liked. This actually made me want to dance. Crazy, but bloody brilliant. Really, really liked that. 10/10 12. Yellowcard - The Takedown Was alright 6/10 13. Reuben - Everytime a Teenager Listens to Drum & Bass A Rockstar Dies 5 mins+. Eek. Was relatively decent but I probably wouldn't listen again. 5/10 14. Avenged Sevenfold - Lost Could have done with a shorter last song for me, did nothing for me though anyway. 5/10 Thanks for sharing your mix lav, there were some absolute specials in there which I'll take away and listen to regularly. Lib hit the nail on the head for me - a little variety. Would have made this perfection. Good listen, thanks. Overall - 7/10

Anyone giving Reuben shocking marks needs to listen to Best Enemies, best Reuben song by far, class. Got a feeling you'd like Nobody Loves You / Boy by them tbh NSLL. Dance Gavin Dance are quality as well, don't quite see the KSE comparison made by Fox Forever myself, sound more like Fall Of Troy or someone of that ilk to me, but hey ho each to their own and all that. Escape Artisits Never Die is a beauty of a song by FFAF as well. I didn't realise how much decent music lav likes.

General Smuts Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 Smells like emo. I remember when i was emo. That was lovely fun. Will listen to this laters.
Mark Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 Well I've heard most of these songs already so I'm sort of reliving them 1. Inme - Far Reaching 2/10 I never liked this band at all when I was into this type of music, still don't! 2. Funeral for a Friend - Streetcar 4/10 I don't mind a bit of FFAF, from the seven ways to scream your name era though. It's not a bad song just heard it abit too much a few years back when it was a single. 3. Killswitch Engage - My Curse 6/10 I like this song, I saw them perform it live a few years ago and they were great then. Really like the part at 2:30 onwards 4. Paramore - Born for This 2/10 I don't care for this band musically Their first album was alright, just way too poppy now. 5. Saosin - 3rd Measurement in C 7/10 Loved this EP back in the day, the drumming is amazing throughout it and Anthony Greens vocals go well with the music, too bad he left! 6. Senses Fail - Every Day Is A Struggle 4/10 I liked this band when they first started out also. Don't sound too much different now, haven't progressed lyrically 7. Dance Gavin Dance - And I told them I Invented Times New Roman 8/10 This is the one band on here that I still listen to now, really good from 2:50. Shame the singer left these too. 8. Escape the Fate - When I Go Out, I Want To Go Out On A Chariot of Fire 2/10 Terrible band. 9. Rise Against - Voices Off Camera 6/10 Used to listen these alot, have heard much better from them. 10. You Me At Six - Save it for the Bedroom 3/10 First band I've not come across so far, not keen 11. Enter Shikari - Hectic 5/10 It's alright, one of the better songs of their latest album. 12. Yellowcard - The Takedown 6/10 Good song. Liked this band alot on One for the Kids & Ocean Avenue. 13. Reuben - Everytime a Teenager Listens to Drum & Bass A Rockstar Dies 2/10 14. Avenged Sevenfold - Lost 2/10 I don't like the last two at all. If I heard this 6/7 years ago I'd have enjoyed it more, I'd have probably made a similar mix back then so I can see why you like most of this stuff. What do you think of these Lav, they're my friends band! http://www.myspace.com/darkestbeforedawnuk
General Smuts Posted 15 July 2009 Posted 15 July 2009 1. Inme - Far Reaching 3/10 - As with a few of the bands i see down the list, i never got into these because they were a bit too metal for me. 2. Funeral for a Friend - Streetcar 8/10 Was the begining of the end for FFAF in that it was the last song they released that was any good. The last 2 albums were shocking. Their decline completes itself with a gig at my uni in September oh dear. Vintage FFAF is excellent i can pick any song from Casually Dressed and listen to it happily. Seminal album. So goodbye to them and thier music life. 3. Killswitch Engage - My Curse 3/10 - I refused way back when to get into these. Partly cos i was scared of the CD covers. I'm aware though that this is thier big hit. They always were a bit too metal for me. I don't mind a bit of screamo but this goes too far beyond. Sorry. 4. Paramore - Born for This 7/10 - Used to be big into Paramore and i can see why they got so big (Hayley) 2 solid albums and massive tunes in Emergency and Misery Business. Enjoyed this but its not me favourite of thiers. 5. Saosin - 3rd Measurement in C 7/10 - Another band i was aware of ut didn't get into but i enjoyed the piano version of this song. 6. Senses Fail - Every Day Is A Struggle 7/10 - Used to be big into Senses, saw them live at The Charlotte and worshipped Let It Enfold You. Never really got into Still Searching but this was one of the highlights of a poor album along with Bonecrusher. Went back at had another listen to Bloody Romance. Still love that song. 7. Dance Gavin Dance - And I told them I Invented Times New Roman 5/10 - One of the few bands on this mix that are too young for me to have heard of since i waved goodbye to emo. The fella should sing more and scream less. Sounds like Patrick Stump. 8. Escape the Fate - When I Go Out, I Want To Go Out On A Chariot of Fire 4/10 - Sounds like an amalgamation of all the other bands. The most cliched emo song i've ever heard Shambles. Can see this being a big hit because of that! 9. Rise Against - Voices Off Camera 7/10 - Another band i've seen live and had a kicking in a circle pit too. Swing Life Away is a classic. 10. You Me At Six - Save it for the Bedroom 6/10 - Im sure Radio 1 like these. Bit clean cut for an emo band surely? 11. Enter Shikari - Hectic 5/10 - This band split peoples opinion for a reason. Not for me. 12. Yellowcard - The Takedown 7/10 - Never really got into Yellowcard back in the day besides Ocean Avenue. Can't believe all of these bands i listened to 6 years ago. Makes me feel a bit old actually. I was BIG into Pop Punk then so im surprised this passed me by. However looking deeper its only 2 years old which makes sense. Very New Found Glory this. Not bad though. 13. Reuben - Everytime a Teenager Listens to Drum & Bass A Rockstar Dies 7/10 - Not bad that. Started really well but petered out. Bit too Fightstar though. 14. Avenged Sevenfold - Lost /10 - Apologies but i've got 21 years without listening to Avenged Sevenfold and i refuse to start now. Overall - 6/10 Enjoyed dragging up my past life as one of the original emos (back before it was ) It almost made me want to get back into myspace and pictures taken in the mirror with my fringe over my face like this: I wish i was still this cool. I had hair groupies back in the day. I'm so glad i found the Libertines when i did. Shambles. EDIT: I'll suggest some bands too, who you may or may not of heard of - A Static Lullaby, Meriwhether, Thrics (sre you will have heard of them) and Reggie And The Full Effect will be your cup of tea.
