Desperate for strikers

Recommended Posts

I wish Pearson had been at Mansfield, he would have realised how desperate we are for some class strikers, if we don't get any we will have a repeat of 2 seasons ago

It's like having deja vu on here tonight

Pearson was there.

where was he hiding, cos i couldn't c him from my seat, and i was behind the goal close to the side where their fans are so i had a good angle

No, it was cos I thought I'd seen another topic started by yourself with a reply from Maybes, and then another topic with exactly the same message without the comment by Maybes. Hence the deja vu comment

He had a white jacket on, and looked what was a suit on underneath. He was certainly there because his car was.

yeah i thought he was stood up on the right of the dugout as we looked at it!

Good i hope i'm wrong, then he will have seen how desparately we need some new players

Its only a friendly mate, yes fair enough we didn't win but the whole point of friendlies is to get players fitter a bit of match experience and blend new signings in with the team"!

Seems as if last nights performance underlined what we already knew - Chambers is not ready for the Championship and Dickov should be sent out to stud.

I can see other areas of the team being addressed by loan signings but we do need other (permanent) options up front.

Lets hope the Lita rumours grow arms and legs quickly. At 24, and with a fairly decent past already, he should have a point to prove. In the right hands (i.e. Pearson), he could reignite his career.

Not sure his Wife would be too happy about that lol

On a serious note, this is an area of the team that needs extensive strengthening if we are to push on next season. A striking trio of Fryatt, Howard and Dickov might just keep us up next year if we don't leak too many goals, but is nowhere near good enough (imo) to get us into the top half of the table.

In particular, neither of those three has real pace, something we have lacked up front for quite a few seasons now, including last year. I'm sure things are being done behind the scenes to bring in a/some new striker(s), but I'm a bit worried if I'm honest about the club's (or rather Mandaric's) ability and willingness to pay for top-quality players. Our most expensive signing so far this summer has been Wellens for £1.2m from a cash-strapped Doncaster, which, let's face it, is small beer these days, even in the Second Division. We've made some fairly safe and solid signings, but nothing to indicate that we are really serious about pushing up the league next year. I'm not saying that spending a lot of money guarantees success (just look at Martin Allen), but at the very least it is a signal of intent. If Mandaric really is serious about getting us back into the Premiership, we should be spending (at the very least) around twice the amount we got from the combined sales of Hume, Stearman and McAuley - who weren't even good enough to keep us up two seasons ago...

Looking at some of the signings other clubs in the division are making, I can't help feeling that, although we are strengthening, we are being left behind. The very fact that a player who is out of contract at Reading is now being viewed by some as a 'big signing' just shows how far behind we are from the teams at the top of the league.

If course, I hope that my worries will be proved wrong

Anyone know if those "rumours" that Lita was gonna be watching the Mansfield game were true?
