Hugo Sanchez Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 If you were one of the lucky punters at V Fest in Stafford on Saturday, you can now claim the honour of seeing the last ever Oasis gig on British soil. The Manc legends pulled out of their headline slot at Chelmsford's V last night because frontman Liam has been struck down with viral laryngitis. The lads still have a few European tour dates left to play, but unless someone offers them silly money to take the stage once more in Britain then I can't see them performing together again. Thousands at the Essex tear-up were left stunned when the shock news was announced yesterday, and Snow Patrol had to step in. Earlier this year Noel christened their UK gigs The Summer Of Bigness. Heaton Park, Murrayfield, the Millennium Stadium, Slane Castle and the Wem-ber-lee dates were epic. But the V festival no-show is a hugely disappointing way for the curtain to come down on a brilliant summer and an unforgettable era for one of the best bands this country has ever produced. A spokesman for Oasis said: "After a year of being on the road this is the first performance to be lost to a band member's illness, so naturally we are all completely gutted." And a V spokesman said: "Fans will naturally be disappointed but the artist's health must come first." It has been a fraught week for the band after Liam launched a bitter attack on Noel in an interview. The singer has also been chipping away at his big brother on Twitter. As a result, the rumour mill was in overdrive at V last night with talk of a fall-out between the siblings. The pair watched their beloved Man City edge past Wolves on Saturday, but from different ends of the ground. Noel then had his photo taken with striker Carlos Tevez before the Gallaghers headed off to Stafford's Weston Park on separate buses. They played the northern leg of the festival with no hiccups, and Liam even stayed up drinking until 3am. But later yesterday morning, doctors were called in and diagnosed a dodgy throat. As much as the brothers want to punch each other's lights out most of the time, they are professionals. The gig was pulled because Liam's throat genuinely wasn't up to the job. Like so many brilliant bands before them, Oasis are bowing out on bad terms. It has been heading this way for a while now, as Noel and Liam grow further apart. Separate flights, different hotels and very little else in common - friends, interests or personalities. Now Milan at the end of the month looks like it could be the last ever Oasis gig. I hope the Italians appreciate it. Fans at V will be hacked off. But as a wise man once said, Don't Look Back In Anger. Via L4e / Source: www.thesun.co.uk
Part Of The Crowd Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 The Interview with the NME made me more concerned, well it would of if I liked those grumpy bastards.
Hugo Sanchez Posted 25 August 2009 Author Posted 25 August 2009 The Sun is full of shit. I hope so but rumours have been flying around for weeks now. Noel and Liam have both said they won't leave Oasis but Noel admitted to not enjoying the V fest gig saturday and if he's not enjoying playing in Oasis anymore, he could be out the band his band soon. If Noel leaves then theres isn't a Oasis anymore and it seems the 2 aren't on any sort of terms anymore.

Liam said himself on twitter that he was ill and was gutted they missed the show. He also said that Gordon "smartarses" column was a load of crap. They haven't been on good terms ever since I can remember.

I think they need a couple years of though now to rest. The last 2 years has been Oasis non stop in the news and playing live. Probally got to them.
Sparky Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 Oasis been big part of my youth and in to my twentys , would be something to tell the grand kids that i was there at the last one !
Budweiser Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 They have always been my favourite band, hope it's not true.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 Even I would rather it were Keane on the verge of packing it in
Vlad The Impaler Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 If true though, we've always got Kasabian

billyfox1 Posted 25 August 2009 Posted 25 August 2009 as if they'll never ever play on british soil again. Even if they pack up now they'll still play at 'LIVE28' or some stupid event in the future and in future if you are going to post anything that includes the phrase "Source: www.thesun.co.uk" don't bother

Bellend Sebastian Posted 26 August 2009 Posted 26 August 2009 Why would they need a publicity stunt? They have no problem selling tickets to their gigs. They may not sell many CDs now, but who does? It's not much of a publicity stunt either - I was clearing some mid 90's NMEs and Melody Makers out of my folks house the other day and pretty much the same story was on the cover every couple of months
