I was only joking about the whole women roundabout theory by the way.

Another thing that really gets my goat..is people in town suddenly deciding they need the lane you are in and therefore they should indicate and cut right in front of you, JUST WAIT you spacker until I can see that nobody is up my arse and perhaps I will slow down. Even thouh 9 times out of 10 I won't, i'll just speed up and give you the finger as I go by.

But what about people who need to turn right in about a mile's time, yet sit in the outside lane of a dual carriageway?

Are they really that hard to understand?

They are for women who never seem to look ahead, assess the traffic and decide how best to proceed but instead drive straight up to the roundabout, then look, then decide what to do thus defeating the whole object of a roundaout which is to keep the traffic flowing.

I accept that there are a few whizz-kid women drivers who manouevre their stylish new motors like Formula 1 dodgems but, generally, at least from my observations, women have no sense of anticipation whatsoever. Must be the effects of thousands of years spent in the company of men.

Some twat in a white van nearly killed me on the A50 on Tuesday - dual carriageway approaching the island, left hand lane was for left or going straight, right hand lane for going straight or turning right... he was in the left hand lane but TURNING RIGHT! God knows how I managed to avoid the twat..... AND he didnt indicate!

I had the biggest dick of a white van man behind me the other day, on the A1 Northbound between Retford and Worksop the A1 drops from 70 to 50mph speed camera cash frenzy, or accident prevention scheme I believe they call it and you get warning signs 50mph in half a mile, 50mph in quarter of a mile etc was driving along at 70mph in the inside lane and could see this dick in a white flatbed truck behind that had a car on the back anyway at the quarter of a mile sign I slowed down a little between 60-65mph getting ready for the 50mph zone in my mirrors could see this idiot waving his arms around in the car, making willy puller signs, flashing his lights, getting right up my arse etc because I had slowed down slightly anyway got to the 50mph zone doing the speed limit and this dick behind is clapping and then proceeds to leave the junction about 100m down the round.

I mean talk about over reaction for a white van man that sort of aggressive driving designed to intimidate other round users is just plain moronic

Because its not required, just like indicating left after you've overtaken somebody. If you have been observing closely, you should be able to guess where most are heading anyway.

One thing I have found annoying about roundabouts recently though is the amount of traffic lights going on them along with interwinding and awkard lane painting which does make people go everywhere!

'Guessing' where someone is heading doesn't sound like a particularly safe option to me!

Really? Because I'm learning to drive right now, and my instructor tells me that you MUST always indicate when leaving a roundabout, the only exception is going straight ahead at a mini roundabout.

Anyway, on the subject, I've only two weeks ago started roundabout in my lessons, and I'd been really bricking it, but it's possibly the easiest thing I've done so far! As long as you look at which lane you need to be in and know which exit to take, it's a doddle!

This Advises that you should signal appropriately at roundabouts. The only occasion where you do not signal is as you approach a roundabout if you are going straight on, although you should still signal to indicate you are leaving the roundabout.

Roundabouts

160. On approaching a roundabout take notice and act on all the information available to you, including traffic signs, traffic lights and lane markings which direct you into the correct lane. You should

• use Mirrors - Signal - Manoeuvre at all stages

• decide as early as possible which exit you need to take

• give an appropriate signal (see Rule 162). Time your signals so as not to confuse other road users

• get into the correct lane

• adjust your speed and position to fit in with traffic conditions

• be aware of the speed and position of all the traffic around you.

• give priority to traffic approaching from your right, unless directed otherwise by signs, road markings or traffic lights

• check whether road markings allow you to enter the roundabout without giving way. If so, proceed, but still look to the right before joining

• watch out for vehicles already on the roundabout; be aware they may not be signalling correctly or at all

• look forward before moving off to make sure traffic in front has moved off.

When taking the first exit

• signal left and approach in the left-hand lane

• keep to the left on the roundabout and continue signalling left to leave.

When taking any intermediate exit

• select the appropriate lane on approach to and on the roundabout, signalling as necessary

• stay in this lane until you need to alter course to exit the roundabout

• signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want.

When taking the last exit or going full circle

• signal right and approach in the right-hand lane

• keep to the right on the roundabout until you need to change lanes to exit the roundabout

• signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want.

When there are more than three lanes at the entrance to a roundabout, use the most appropriate lane on approach and through it.
