Bert Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Well it's this seasons stats I'm afraid.. Ooops, my mistake!
Uncle Albert Posted 2 October 2009 Posted 2 October 2009 Come on, bit of bias there. Scholes isn't as special as he was was when United had the best midfield in the world, (Beckham-Scholes-Keane-Giggs) which is mainly down to age, and having past his peak. He won't offer as much as he used to (as covered) but one thing for sure, Scholes should and will be held in high regard when he's finished. I think with the International retirements, there's much more to it than we actually know. Gerrard and Lampard are going to be better right now because they are peaking. If Gerrard, Scholes and Lampard had peaked at the same time, it may have been a different story. Gerrard and Lampard played more games than Scholes did last season, which means it's going to be easier for Scholes to have a better completion ratio. It's not being bias thats just my opinion on Paul Scholes, nothing special.
dandannieldanok Posted 2 October 2009 Posted 2 October 2009 Paul Scholes is a tit, I couldn't care less how many passes he makes, it's his tackling that is the big issue. When Scholes comes flying in with his terrible challenges everyone just chuckles and says "good old Scholesy he can't tackle...blah blah blah", when if you saw the same from a Bolton or a Stoke player for example, everyone would jump on them and call for red cards and bans and immediately label them dirty.

Yeah people are quick to snipe on Joey Barton. <_< To be fair to Scholes he has won alot in his career but I just don't think he would be as good if he was playing with different players, he would be classed on the same level as the likes of Michael Carrick, Scott Parker and Gareth Barry as good players but not special, brilliant or world class.

I'm sorry but you're just plain wrong. Carrick, Parker and Barry could never do this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JReo8IqtSm8 or this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQXrMbArqSs or this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Au7WwfV5vI That's without even looking at the ridiculous amounts of passes that it's been shown he makes now at the age of 34, PLAYING IN THE SAME TEAM AS CARRICK. His tackling has never been good, but technically he's the best English footballer I've seen (I'd say I've been watching football since about '92)
Uncle Albert Posted 5 October 2009 Posted 5 October 2009 Fabregas is the best mid in the prem! What a plank you are.
Darkzzz_ Posted 5 October 2009 Posted 5 October 2009 Fabregas is the best mid in the prem! Excellent player.
Guest ttfn Posted 5 October 2009 Posted 5 October 2009 I was never 100% sure about Fabregas until yesterday. Admittedly, Arsenal were only playing Blackburn, but he was everywhere - an absolutely magnificent performance
sdb Posted 5 October 2009 Posted 5 October 2009 Fabregas has been the most composed CM in the prem for years. As for Scholes, there are 20+ better CMs in the league than him.

Scholes isn't the best CM in the prem but there isn't 20 better either!
sdb Posted 6 October 2009 Posted 6 October 2009 Name the other 19 that are better then? You clearly know nothing. Scholes isn't the best CM in the prem but there isn't 20 better either! Thanks for that. OK: Gerrard, Lampard, Essien, Fabregas, Ballack, Mascherano, Palacios, Cahill, Arteta, Barry, Ireland, Fletcher, Carrick, Giggs, Modric & Arshavin (if we count players who sometimes play there), Fellani, probably Osman and Cattermole too. Sure there's more I can't think of Cheers
StanSP Posted 6 October 2009 Posted 6 October 2009 Oh dear Palacios is MILES better than Scholes I hate Scholes, but I wouldn't say this at all.

Sure there's more I can't think ofCheers The ones in bold are bollocks. For starters you are comparing defensive midfielders to more of an attacking midfielder in Scholes. Palacios? That is a joke! Apart from Giggs no-one has more medals in their trophy cabinet than Scholes in that list. He may becoming close to the end of his career but to say there are 20 that are better is rubbish and shows your lack of knowledge of the game. You have only juast named 20, but that list includes the whole of the everton midfield. Leon Osman and Fellani!!! I will give you Gerrard, Lampard, Essien, Fabregas, Ballack, Arshavin. Giggs is on par. As for the rest you are in cookoo land mate.
Manwell Pablo Posted 6 October 2009 Posted 6 October 2009 Nah Man, Cattermole is my faviourate. Genius

Swap them for Joe Cole and Rosiksy if you want. Palacios is so much better I absolutely cannot believe people are questioning it. Look at Wigans record when he was there. They were 7th when he left last xmas and they barely won a game the rest of the season. Spurs were in the relegation zone and finished top half. I can't imagine many managers paying £17 mill for Paul Scholes. And yes, Scholes has plenty of trophies but unless i'm mistaken were talking about 2009, current ability.
sdb Posted 6 October 2009 Posted 6 October 2009 Nah Man, Cattermole is my faviourate. Genius OK that wasn't my best shout but i'd still take him over Scholes if i were a current Prem manager. Do people think this is 1999?! And if Fletcher and Carrick aren't better than Scholes why do they play so much more?

And if Fletcher and Carrick aren't better than Scholes why do they play so much more? Scholes is always suspended, that's why But in all honesty, Scholes recovery period compared to Fletcher and Carrick would be so different, and that's why they play more. Here's a cheeky stat, Thomas Vermaelen has started his Arsenal career in better goalscoring form than Thierry Henry!

Ok I can't be bothered to differ any longer, but you have named players like Osman, Cattermole, Cahill etc. I hope you never get anywhere near managing a football club! My adice would be to watch MOTD or Live football on a more regular basis

My adice would be to watch MOTD or Live football on a more regular basis Ok thanks, I didn't realise you had definative knowledge on football. I'll take midfielders who can run, have energy and can play 90 mins. You take a 34 year old who used to be brilliant and can play an hour every 3 games. I watch plenty of football, live and on tv, and even if i did watch more I wouldn't see a lot of Paul Scholes. P.s. congrats on being able to lift your own body weight!! I was about to ask about that!
Uncle Albert Posted 6 October 2009 Posted 6 October 2009 Paul Scholes isnt fit enough to lace Gerrard or Lampard's boots.
StanSP Posted 6 October 2009 Posted 6 October 2009 Paul Scholes isnt fit enough to lace Gerrard or Lampard's boots. True. But he'll need a job for when he retires
