Halal Subway

Recommended Posts

I might regret mentioning this, but the Subway on London Road near the station closed a few days ago while they were 'making a few changes'. It's now opened up again, and it took me a while to realise what the changes are when I went there today - it's gone Halal.

Before anyone gets too excited, it's not happened to all Subways. I'm not sure if any of the others in Leicester are Halal, or planning on it.

Anyway

No more ham and bacon, but turkey ham and turkey rashers instead.

They had the biggest queue in there ever today, so it's not put off their regular punters. My Halal Italian BMT was ok (I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference).

What do you think to that, then?

Two of the other Subway's in town are being done up, so it's possible they could be changing.

I noticed the other day that the one on Cheapside is also Halal.

I personally wouldn't eat Halal, but do you know if you have an option or is it Halal or nothing?

If they're going to do it anywhere, it would be Leicester I suppose.

I imagine they'll get more extra business than they lose from people who get angry about that sort of thing. My mum doesn't go in Subway anyway.

In the branch I went in, it was all Halal as far as I could tell. All the menus have been changed, although you wouldn't notice at first glance

I think most Subways are franchises. Presumably this franchise is owned by a muslim so that's fair enough. If people want a bacon sandwich there are plenty of other places that sells them.

If there doing it properly it has to be all or nothing. They cant prepare non-Halal food in the same place as Halal as it completely defeats the object as I understand it? Anyone Muslim could probably put me right on that though?

I dont buy Subways anyway. Each to their own though. :)

You took the words right out of my mouth.

My friend owns a couple down here and although he's not a practicing muslim I doubt his Caerphilly shop going Halal would increase sales

I've just read that Subway have been accused of using unethical Halal. I didn't realise there were two different sorts, but apparently most Halal isn't too bad ethically because at least they stun the animal before they do all that throat slitting stuff. But supposedly not some of Subway's suppliers. Oops

I dont like the way they kill them but having known someone who worked in an abbatior the way they kill normal meat is not much better. They dont always do what theyre supposed to. Its something I just dont think about - I like eating meat so would be a hypocrit to moan about it I suppose lol

Well this topic will eventually wind up to be a "British Food for British Fast Food Lovers" racist rant, so may as well get it started...

I don't think we'll be seeing Morrissey in there

It's personal choice for either the owner or consumer, there not the only francise to go halal............all the Nando's in Leicester are halal.

Personally I don't agree with the method, so I try not to eat halal, meh there's loads of other place's so it doesn't make much of a difference to me!!

I know Lou loves abit of meat in her, actually she loves alot of meat in her!!!! :P

All meat should be hung to allow the blood to drain. It makes the meat more tender.

A few Subways in town have closed down (or being done up).

A Dominos in Birmingham went Halal a couple of years ago and it sparked "outrage" amongst it's normal customers.

Are people that sad?

I remember when there were just fields where these "subways" now stand.

We used to take the milk from the cows that grazed there, and just hunted for whatever meat we wanted. You would have been lucky to find any honey mustard laying around in them days I tell ya.....
