BoneDog Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 Nothing wrong with halal meat (or kosher which is the same). Halal meat is lovely and is much better for you than meat that hasn't had the blood drained. All halal means is that the animal has been hung upside down so the blood drains out. Go to a halal butchers (or kosher) and buy some chicken breast and try it. Lovely. As for folks who moan about how the animal is killed, I think you are wrong if you say it is worse than supermarket methods. Most animals that end up in supermarkets have gone through hell 100 times worse before they end up on the shelves. I won't bother going into that cos it would take a while. The animals used for halal meat are treated well right upto the moment they are slaughtered (unlike supermarket meat). The twitching you see an animal do after it's throat has been slit is not cos the animal is in pain, it is just the muscle spasms. When there is no blood flow to the brain (when the jugular is cut) it is impossible for an animal or human to feel pain. Only blood flow around the brain allows pain to be possible. If anyone researches this subject then they will learn the truth. Simple fact that supermarket animals have been treated like shit. Some of them have been packed into 3 tier lorries for 3 days shitting and pissing allover eachother, frightened and panicking.
FilboFox Posted 8 October 2009 Posted 8 October 2009 Was really pissed off today as I was wandering around town with shit loads of books coming back to mine from having posted a letter and I went to 3 different Subways I knew and ALL of them were shut... very annoyed. Why are they doing them all up at the same time? As for one of them going halal... well that means nothing to me as I haven't a clue what that means... I can't say I take a great interest in any form of religion. If it tastes OK though, I'll eat it.
MPH Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 wether its halal or general supermarket meat, you get people who run their business properly and those who dont. to Say Halal meat is killed more kindly and looked after more kindly is is naive to say the least! ( from personal experience!)

( from personal experience!) I understand that some folk wouldn't do it properly (probably the suppliers of big companies like Subway for a start) but then it's not halal or kosher anyway. But if it is done the way it should be then it is very humane compared to the way people who supply supermarkets do it. Local produce is the best way. Any large company will not give a shit what happens to the animals in the run up to the fridge shelves.

ACF Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 It's personal choice for either the owner or consumer, there not the only francise to go halal............all the Nando's in Leicester are halal.Personally I don't agree with the method, so I try not to eat halal, meh there's loads of other place's so it doesn't make much of a difference to me!! I know Lou loves abit of meat in her, actually she loves alot of meat in her!!!! You're not very good with this Halal stuff... You beat your meat too much.

I agree with you, I just think that kosher and halal is better cos the blood is drained and from what I've read it is far better for us that way. I used to know some real posh folk who had their own land, they weren't religious or anything but they used to drain the blood from their animals before they ate them. I just don't think that the big companies have time to do this as they want to get the stuff on the shelves as quickly as possible
Dr The Singh Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 You're not very good with this Halal stuff...You beat your meat too much. Do you have a solution???? Most humane way to kill an animal is 'jhatka', one single blow to the back of th head!! UK meat is mainly killed by single electric shock, but imported meat especially cheap meat from thailand or brazil(stuff you find in kebab shops, indian restaurants, cheap fast food chains) including halal is of a very low grade, cages of the animal are strung above rivers, so these animal drink the same water they pee and crap into!! You basically pay for what you get!!

Babylon Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 Bloody muslims... if they aren't blowing the subway up they are converting it to Halal** **Not my thoughts, but probably a future daily mail headline.
MPH Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 Bloody muslims... if they aren't blowing the subway up they are converting it to Halal****Not my thoughts, but probably a future daily mail headline. In all seriousness this is a multicultural society, why shouldnt there be shops and food places to accommodate that fact? People are free to spend their money how they want to and people are free to set up whichever business they want to. If Halal Subways suddenly closed down its not like the whole city would grind to a halt with people running around screaming with fear of not being able to find anywhere to buy their lunch...
Guest Bilo Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 A few Subways in town have closed down (or being done up).A Dominos in Birmingham went Halal a couple of years ago and it sparked "outrage" amongst it's normal customers. Are people that sad? In Israel they have kosher Dominos. Which means no meat and cheese (or indeed any other dairy product together). I too would be bloody outraged! Joking aside though, I don't see why people would be worried about halal meat in their sub. As others have said, the ethical concerns about the method of slaughter are rather undermined when you consider the way that battery animals are treated in life as it is. It won't make any difference to the flavour or raise the price so there should be no problem. I bet the same people complaining about this would have no problem eating at Maryland chicken as a cheap snack, even though they are and always have been 100% halal. EDIT: It's actually Pizza Hut branches for those pedants out there.
MPH Posted 9 October 2009 Posted 9 October 2009 there was a show BBC ran for a while. was very good. it was called Blood sweat and takeaways and focussed the conditions and pay poorer countres' workers had to go through to produce cheap quality food for us. was an eye opener to say the least. on a side note i remember walking through a street market in the West bank and there in the middle of the street on a warm morning was some beef.. middle of the street. so i asked the person i was with " would that be safe to eat?" their reply was " sure - it ws walking around in a field this morning." cant argue with that freshness!

These posh folk I used to know used to hang these big fat steaks in the kitchen for a while until they started going a bit mouldy or blue I think and then cooked them. I don't know why they did that! Were you in the West Bank on holiday? Must of been a bit wild
Bellend Sebastian Posted 9 October 2009 Author Posted 9 October 2009 That's lovely material, Raj. High five! Wooooo. Feel better now?

The Doctor Posted 13 October 2009 Posted 13 October 2009 Subway is a bloody rip-off anyway. at 3.85 for a meatball, cheese and sweetcorn sub plus drink (this is after student discount) doesn't seem like a bad deal to me, compared to Mcdonalds . thats why my lunch on fridays is always the abover mentioned sub and a bottle of fanta from the subway between the market and highcross. every friday at 12:00. Bloody muslims... if they aren't blowing the subway up they are converting it to Halal****Not my thoughts, but probably a future daily mail headline.
The Doctor Posted 14 October 2009 Posted 14 October 2009 Sweetcorn is the work of the devil. am i really the only person who likes sweetcorn?
