Islam is no more 'brutal' or 'savage' than any other Abrahamic faith. Look in the Bible, mainly Leviticus and the Old Testament as a whole and you will find passages that are 'brutal' or 'savage'. Are Christians backward or savage? Think about your answer. I bet your answer is almost certainly 'no' yet that ignores the fact that Christianity has been as responsible for war and conflict as Islam has been.

Fear of Islam is driven by tabloids bent on exacerbating existing tensions and should be rejected. As an atheist, I can't pretend to believe in any religion but I do at least respect beliefs with the same respect I'd expect to be to shown to mine.

Quite probably but it shows that it's unfair to single out Islam as such and pretend Christianity and Judaism are all sweetness and light. None of the religions are and it has proved all too easy for unscrupulous powers to use all three religions to justify all manner of crimes.

One of many reasons I'm an atheist.
