Dylan Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 I thought we played good football today. Fryatt played stunning to me, and Dyer ripped them open. After Hobbs came off at HT, we looked very edgy at the back. O'Neill hasn't got enough experience, but Nigel had no choice. Ive never been a fan of McGivern. Is Bruno injured, cause he was in the squad? And i think Nigel Pearson should've made an earlier sub for Howard, he played terrible for me! But we got the 3 points so i cant complain, were up to 4th, and can go level with forest if we win our game in hand!
BedsFox Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 Pearson said post match, Berner was coming on for Hobbs at HT, but felt his calf go as he was preparing, thus O'Neill had to come on Considering this, thought the very young back four did ok, albeit unconvincingly Going forward thought Fryatt and Dyer had outstanding games Team selection for the back five at Doncaster looks tricky!
Daggers Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 The back four were reprieved because the middle four stepped up to the plate and played a blinder. For those of you who think Kingy shouldn't be playing Blue Square or that Oakley fails to contribute...across the park, our midfield commanded, dominated and thrust themselves. Nice work City, it wasn't pretty at times but it was effective.
nuttytimmy Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 And i think Nigel Pearson should've made an earlier sub for Howard, he played terrible for me! Howard did little wrong today and was great for me, he held-up the ball terrifically and was unfortunate not to grab a goal or two.
Finnegan Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 I'm on the fence with Howard, not a massive fan and not his biggest critic - but I thought Howard was a bit average-to-poor today, really. Not sure what you saw on the Sky cameras but he seemed a bit tired, particularly in the second half. Could have done better with a couple of chances but generally just seemed a little ineffective. I imagine Pearson just had belief in our ability to hang on but given our back four I'd have felt much safer if he'd have given Gallagher or Kermorgant a run for twenty odd minutes at the end, up front. Just to put some fresh imputus into our attack. Good result though, so I can't be too critical. Thought Dyer was excellent really - just a shame we couldn't have one on either wing! Genuine pace with the ball terrifies me. That's the difference between Dyer and Campbell's respective "speed" for me - Dyer's blistering with the ball at his feet, too. Great to watch - I imagine horrible to play against.
DeclanMC Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 I'd like to see that twunt fox92 come on here and slate weale now. Played excellently tonight, I just hope Berner and Brown come back soon...
lildave3 Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 Steve played terrible? What game were you at? He was marvellous. Neilson did ok today I thought, Oakley and Wellens got involved, Fryatt was pretty nifty but still needs to open his eyes . Dyer looked like the Dyer from the start of last season again, getting at their defence. i liked it.
Finnegan Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 I'd like to see that twunt fox92 come on here and slate weale now. Played excellently tonight, I just hope Berner and Brown come back soon... In all fairness, he did have a few heart in mouth moments...
Finnegan Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 Steve played terrible? What game were you at? He was marvellous. Methinks only because he's your favourite player. He wasn't terrible, no. But I wouldn't say marvellous either.
BedsFox Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 I know its not a popular view, and this is based off the TV today, but Howard won an awful lot in the air, was only denied a goal by excellent goalkeeping too. Fryatt looked superb, but in part that was because Howard was an effective partner for him
Fosse Boy Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 Few complaints over here. Pretty much everyone did their part today. The team works.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 Absolutely delighted with the win today, thoroughly deserved. We started pretty poor, scrappy, giving things away, but we showed we can threaten, the corners we had were the key. The Morrison's shot leading to the opening goal, and we changed totally. We became quicker, stronger, better, we started to dominate, it was brilliant to watch. Going in at half time and feeling unlucky not to be 3-0 up was brilliant. But I dunno what it was, a more fired up Sheff U, whatever, sloppy play to concede so early in the second half, and there were moments of sloppiness, probably caused by panicking. Nevertheless, this does not take away from a sterling performance, and a very good defensive display against a team that came at us. And Lastly. Lloyd Dyer, take a bow my son, you had an absolute blinder from start to finish. Bring on Donneh Lastly, for me, best performance since QPR, by a mile

Fryatt looked superb, but in part that was because Howard was an effective partner for him I don't think Fryatt's performance was overly dependant on Howard, today, he was just quite fired up and moved intelligently with the ball - took on a lot of responsibility and did well for himself to be fair.
Radovan's Caravan Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 Fryatt - Ave il magnifico! The fates are with 'e Leicester! And a special message to the half time soprano - your exquisite rendition of 'Oh Holy Night' almost turned me Christian (shame it's a load of old rot!) Lovely to see the Walkers on the internet after all these years...
lildave3 Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 Methinks only because he's your favourite player. He wasn't terrible, no. But I wouldn't say marvellous either. He was bloody good today, not because he's my lover, but because he was. Every ball that came his way, he flicked it on to Fryatt, or headed it to Lloyd or something. Or he'd bring it down then simply lay it off. Simple things done brilliantly. Ok, he could have had 1 but I still thought he was good. And for that guy to say he played terrible is fooking ridiculous. What exactly did he do wrong?

Oh I don't think he was terrible at all, I agree with you on that. I do think he looked to offer little at the latter stages of both halves though and I imagine it's fair indication that we're definitely getting to a point of his career where regular 90 minutes will be less and less occuring.
BedsFox Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 I don't think Fryatt's performance was overly dependant on Howard, today, he was just quite fired up and moved intelligently with the ball - took on a lot of responsibility and did well for himself to be fair. Not overly dependent no, but Howard definitely had a part to play. Won an awful lot of flick ons from which Fryatt caused a lot of problems It's entirely true that the run up to the penalty, and Frayatt's great run from touchline to near the goal in the second half were nothing to do with Howard, who will nevertheless be disappointed not to get it on target from King's lay back at the end of that move
Craig Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 Howard was decent today, he played the target man role absolutely superbly. How anyone can disagree is beyond me
Fosse Boy Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 Oh hang on, I do have some complaints. Fryatt went down a bit too easily for my liking. And I had to watch the game on TV, instead of in the ground. But that's it. :scarf:
Daggers Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 If you don't get what Howard does for the team then you probably never will...

And I had to watch the game on TV, instead of in the ground. BedsFox Posted 26 December 2009 Posted 26 December 2009 Definite penalty, he caught him. Fryatt made the most of it, and then a bit, as he was in the process of losing control.
