Foxes reserve team manager Gerry Taggart says he is enjoying his first coaching role in football, his only complaint being that he wants more games!

The former Northern Ireland captain joined the coaching staff at the Walkers Stadium in 2007 under Gary Megson and wants to continue his development at the club.

"It's a good learning process for me, I love my job, I love working with players it's what I know. I'm learning different kinds of coaching methods all the time."

Taggart, who made over one hundred appearances as a player at Leicester and won the League Cup in 2000, particularly relishes with the club's younger players, with many of John Rudkin's academy side making their way in the reserve side.

"If the younger players are going to step up they need to learn the game in a different way to they would playing academy football."

"There's a lot for younger players to learn and that means there's a lot for me to try and teach them. That's the enjoyable bit."

Nothing on the OS but the Walsall OS has this report:

GOALS from Sam Parkin and Alex Nicholls have given The Saddlers' reserves a 2-1 victory over Leicester City in the totesport.com League Cup.

Walsall were forced to come from behind against a youthful Foxes outfit in a game that was played at Damson Park, home of Solihull Moors FC.

"We started slowly and found ourselves a goal down within the opening minute," said reserve team boss, Martin O'Connor. "It was nip-and-tuck for the remainder of the first half, but we were more expansive after the break to stretch the game.

"We played with a much better tempo in the second period and stepped up a gear. Our movement was improved and the players enjoyed it a lot more.

"We got back on level terms as Richard Taundry crossed well into the danger zone and Sam Parkin showed great movement to make space for himself and apply the finish.

"The winner came from the penalty spot as Alex Nicholls tucked the ball home to turn the scoreline on its head and give us the victory that our second half performance deserved."

WALSALL: Gilmartin, Westlake, Sansara, Hickman, Partridge, Taundry, Nicholls, O'Keefe (Geddes), Parkin, Craddock (Pateron), Grigg. Subs not used: Wren, McCourt, Overfield.

Lost 2-1 Chamberlain scored a well calm finish, going round the keeper.

Was a really poor game, Leicester were the better team in the first half, but Walsall deserved the win because of the second half. Nobody really stood out thought Nathan Hicks was quite decent, Bolger was alright at the back as was Rowe-Turner. Ajdarevic just shoots from everywhere and god knows what was seen in Verma. Gerry was class on the sideline, 'we playing in blue' was what he kept telling to that Moore lad. And wasn't happy with Jorrin John not doing much in the second half.

Leicester City Reserves lost their final Totesport.com group game 2-1 against Walsall at Damson Park despite leading 1-0 at half-time. A second half goal from the experienced Sam Parkin and a penalty from Alex Nicholls cancelled out Elliot Chamberlain's opener.

City's reserve team manager Gerry Taggart went with youth in a game which they didn't need to win, having already qualified for the next round. Defender Luke O'Neill was the only player in the squad to have made a first team appearance this season, having played in the Carling Cup against Macclesfield and as a second half substitute against Sheffield United.

Taggart's side made the perfect start to the match, with youngster Chamberlain giving Leicester the lead within three minutes. The Wales U21 international latched on to a through ball and took it round goalkeeper Rene Gilmartin to roll into an empty net.

Walsall had a side packed with experience including skipper Richard Taundry, Alex Nicholls and former Hull striker Sam Parkin/ Parkin was ineffective in the first half, as he was expertly marshalled by Leicester's central defensive pairing of Cian Bolger and Liam Moore.

The Saddlers' only real opening of the half saw striker Josh Craddock shoot inches wide of Carl Pentney's left hand post from Parkin's pass.

At the other end Leicester were mainly restricted to pot shots from outside the area, with Astrit Ajdarevic twice failing to trouble Gilmartin.

After half-time, Walsall slowly started to dominate proceedings as Taundry saw more of the ball in midfield. Just after the hour Walsall's pressure finally told as Nicholls curled in a beautiful right wing free kick and Parkin headed forcefully past the helpless Pentney.

Walsall then had two opportunities to take the lead from open play only to be foiled by two goal line clearances. Firstly Nicholls rounded the goalkeeper but his shot from a wide angle was deflected away by Moore, then midfielder Nathan Hicks found himself in the right place at the right time to clear the danger as the hosts threatened again.

Parkin then forced Pentney into a good low save as he released a right footed drive from the edge of the area. With less than ten minutes remaining in the match referee Mr Lewis awarded Martin O'Connor's side a penalty as Bolger was judged to have handled the ball in the box. Nicholls stepped up to take the spot kick and sent Pentney the wrong way.

City did their best to force their way back into the game, and with a minute to play Robbie Burns couldn't quite find the space to shoot when well placed in the penalty area.
