Anyone but England (ABE)

Not really banter though because it's just one way. No-one can say it's got anything to do with sport as there is no rivalry in place between Scotland and England's football teams, we barely ever play each other and we're on completely different levels. It's harmless but you can't say it's banter, it's a pointless hatred and jealousy on their part.

Of course it isn't one way. We might not play each other very often but the England fans still give a good bit of stick back.

And you always, ALWAYS get the same old "Looking forward to world cup, Mac... OH SHIT SORRY YOU'RE NOT IN IT!" gags.

Sorry but it goes both ways. It's just a bit of jip. You're taking it ridiculously too seriously and seriously over elaborating it.

Ok it's not one way you're right, but you can't deny that it's more one way than the other.

I wouldn't say I'm taking it any more seriously than the reality is, the Scots (in the main) hate the English to the point where they want complete independence from Westminster. I for one hope they get it.

lol I don't really know where to begin with this, uh.

1. Less than half of the people of Scotland want continued devolution and an even smaller minority of those want complete and total independence.

2. If they did want independence it wouldn't be "because they hate the English," it would be because they believe that they are culturally and socially different enough from the rest of the United Kingdom to a degree that necessitates complete self governance. It would also imply that they felt their needs, as a result of the above, were not catered for by the British government.

3. Contrary to the common English siege mentality, the average Welsh, Irish and Scots person will usually tell you they don't "hate all English people." We may be still somewhat resentful of our respective histories and we may feel aggrieved about some English attitudes, particularly of those in authority, towards us and I could probably give you examples that demonstrate that, the latter at least, is justified. But we don't "hate all English", it's just banter - even away from the sport. There might be a few dickheads that really buy into it but so what? There are English dickheads that do the same in reverse.

4. It's sport. It's a rivalry. It's fuck all to do with politics at the end of the day, it's just harmless banter. Most of those Jocks would happily sit in a pub with the likes of Sparky or RobboFox (for example) and have a laugh and a few pints with them, taking the piss out of each other whilst watching the sport. It's what it's about.

I go on a Hibs forum and most of them on there think it's embarrassing. This anti-English thing seems a bit exaggerated to me.

Completely. lol

It's just a bit of a joke. Like I said, people take it far too seriously.

dandaniel probably thinks the Taffs and the Jocks singing "We hate England more than you!" back and forth is us rallying together for war or something.

2. I disagree with that personally, I think those elements of Scottish society that strive for independence are doing it on the back of a resentment at the power being held in Westminster rather than in their own country and by Scottish people. A geographical reason combined with a dislike and distrust of English people in power (tbf everyone distrusts government and rightly so!). We'll have to agree to disagree on this I think.

3. What siege mentality?

4. Yes it is banter to a point, but I just personally find acts like this jealous and pathetic, almost obsessive. I am hyping my point up for the sake of this discussion btw, in reality I couldn't care less what they do or think, I just find these type of things ridiculous. It's like how the Scottish love Diego Maradona purely because he cheated England out of a game, for me that's just strange and pathetic. The ironic thing is that acts like this backfire and make England and the English look important.

EDIT: And before you accuse me of being biased, I think some of the attitudes English people hold against the Germans are as equally pathetic.

Hardly, I haven't actually mentioned the Welsh once, and tbh I've never really thought the Welsh really seem to give two stuffs about England.

Exactly what I was going to say. You'd just be a bit of a sad mug to buy it anyway.

I don't find it offensive at all, just pathetic to be honest.

Tinpot.
Who cares? Let 'em get on with it.

If any Englishman is actually offended by this then you're as small-time as the people who are winding you up by producing this stuff.

Pretty much sum up my views on these T-shirts.

It's just pathetic and childish really, I'd feel more pity than offence if I saw someone wearing that tat.

Its not racist and its not offensive....its biggest problem is that for something thats just meant to be a "joke" its just not funny! >_<

Its probably just another sad attempt to stir up a rivalry but it would be like us suddenly selling t-shirts with "Anbody But Manchester United" on them to try and stir up a history!

If it werent for the policemen who crazily used the term "racist" nobody would have given two ****s about this t-shirt or Scotland :dunno: though its the same every major tournament, its just gotten very old very fast <_<

I don't get why people are saying Scotland are trying to whip up a rivalry with England. It kind of is the oldest international fixture in the world.

lol!!

JME has already ordered his.

lol lol

Not quite ordered it yet haha, reckon my money will be better spent downing a pint for every goal England concede in the World Cup and purchasing 2 rounds for whoever I watch the game with for every game they lose. :P:unsure:

Fuck the Welsh and the Jocks, yeah its banter at the end of the day but I will show some support to Scotland because of family but I still dont really like seeing them win, I'm not just saying to wind Finnegan up but I actually do hate the Welsh, the people, the country and the football team, I have a little bit of respect for the Rugby side because they are actually quite succesful at that.
