Daggers Posted 13 March 2010 Posted 13 March 2010 Sunday 14th March is π day - chosen to represent the first three digits 3.14 Pi is an irrational number, which means its decimal representation goes on forever. This means that potentially every possible number you can think of is hidden somewhere in pi – your date of birth, phone number, or even your bank details. What's more, using a code that converts numbers into letters would let us find the Bible, the complete works of Shakespeare, or indeed every book ever written, if we looked at enough digits. Go look - I just found my bank account number and date of birth. Search Pi
Phube Posted 13 March 2010 Posted 13 March 2010 Ha... I found a number string not in Pi!! 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 The string 123456789 did not occur in the first 200000000 digits of pi after position 0.(Sorry! Don't give up, Pi contains lots of other cool strings.)
Daggers Posted 13 March 2010 Author Posted 13 March 2010 Ha... I found a number string not in Pi!! 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 You broke Pi! Stay the fuck away from Google - I don't want you doing the same to the internet.

DB11 Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 My DOB, debit card long number nor my phone number appear. My bank account number and sort code do though.

The Doctor Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 none of my personal details are in there. I'd quite like to know why someone has sat there and calculate pi to 200 million places.
lookwhaticando Posted 16 March 2010 Posted 16 March 2010 none of my personal details are in there. I'd quite like to know why someone has sat there and calculate pi to 200 million places. To allow millions of people all over the world to search for their date of birth and bank account numbers and so on, to see if they happen to appear in the 200 million decimal places... Coincidentally, I wonder if the search strings are logged at all?
Phube Posted 16 March 2010 Posted 16 March 2010 Coincidentally, I wonder if the search strings are logged at all? But who would actually put in their Bank Account number into a dodgy website...
