The club has now issued a stern warning to fans. It says that any supporter carrying or wearing unofficial Wembley merchandise or counterfeit goods with the trademark of the competition’s sponsor – Johnstone’s Paints – will be barred from the stadium on the day of the final on Sunday, March 28. The counterfeit goods are also likely to be confiscated, say United officials. The club’s media officer Andy Hall said: “We are aware that unofficial traders are selling items for the final around town and we have asked the police, trading standards and the City Council to deal with the situation. It simply isn’t fair on the fans because they are making purchases that will be of no use to them. “We have had to go through an approval process for every official item we have produced and it is only these items that will be allowed into the stadium.” Mr Hall said that Carlisle United as a club had been fairly relaxed about what fans may wear on the day but he stressed that Wembley and Johnstone’s Paint, who sponsor the competition, were determined to protect their trade mark. “They’re very protective of it,” he said, adding that only Wembley approved items would be allowed. He added that Carlisle fans who produce their own T-shirts – for example bearing images of their favourite players – need not worry. The warning relates only to counterfeit goods. Carlisle United itself has five registered trade marks, which are: Carlisle United, Carlisle United FC, C.U.F.C., CUFC, and the flying fox. Trading standards chiefs in Cumbria have said they will crack down on any trader who tries to sell counterfeit Carlisle United goods in the run up the Wembley final. Any fan interested in buying official Wembley merchandise – things such as hats, shirts, and horns – can do so through the club shop, whose stock can be viewed on line at http://www.carlisleunited.co.uk/page/Home Harsh or fair? Samilktray Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 Counterfeit goods arent tolerated in any other business, so why should they in this business?
ousefox Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 Heard this on 606 yesterday and thought it seemed a bit unfair. I'm sure there are also a lot of stalls on Wembley Way that don't sell 'official' gear for every single game that is played at Wembley.
MC Prussian Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 A football club keen on the dough - who would've thought... But then again, I do ask myself the same question over and over and over: Who in the world would wear fake Carlisle United gear???
Edmund Posted 14 March 2010 Author Posted 14 March 2010 If we make the play off final, I might print a batch of 'Foxes Never quit' T-shirts.
Guest Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 If we make the play off final, I might print a batch of 'Foxes Never quit' T-shirts. We all know who to avoid on the walk down to the stadium then
Fox You Forest Posted 14 March 2010 Posted 14 March 2010 If we make the play off final, I might print a batch of 'Foxes Never quit' T-shirts. I'd probably buy one. Some guy was selling some champions t-shirts at Crewe last year I still have it somewhere, never worth a fiver but I was pissed.
shen Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Well they'd have to make the play-off final in the first place!
Daggers Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Who in the world would wear fake Carlisle United gear??? I got a brilliant fake CUFC tracksuit from the Cobblers' shop
