davieG Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Leicester City has received a message of support from a couple of Faraway Foxes who are backing the Promotion Push. Twins Jordan and Jason Becker from New York, think City have got themselves into a fantastic position on merit and are on the up. Here's their message to the team: "We might live far away from the Walkers Stadium, but we think we speak for all Leicester City fans by saying we're delighted with the job all of you have done over the past two seasons. "You've got a great chance for promotion, and you've definitely shown you are worthy of it. Keep up your good form, and here's hoping we can throw our own promotion party in New York!" Reflecting on the realistic chances of hosting that party, they added: "Leicester City are well-positioned to secure a top six finish and we all know what that means. If they keep up their good form in the final 14 games, at the least, they'll have earned a great chance at winning promotion. "Leicester have gotten some great results against the other clubs around them at the top of the table, so that should only make them a more confident team come May." The 27-year-old New Yorkers have been City fans for over ten years, following the team via Foxes Player, Leicester City's exclusive online subscription service. "Since only a few Leicester City games are televised in the US, we make it a point to catch as many of those as we can, often watching them at Nevada Smith's, a well-known soccer bar in New York City," they reflected on City fandom across the pond. So how would two guys from a country where soccer may not be the most popular professional sport start following the Foxes? Cue the signing of 'keeper Kasey Keller and the novelty of Premier League broadcasts in the US back in the 1998-1999 season, as Jordan explains: "Martin O'Neill put a great group of players in front of Keller, and it was a lot of fun watching that Leicester team battle past some famous opposition and finish in the top half of the Premiership. "Keller left after that season, but I'd already fallen in love with Leicester City and have continued to support the club still today. Jason caught the City bug not long after - well, we are twins, so we've got to support the same team!" And Jordan's favourite moment as a City fan? "As our support for the club is a bit unorthodox, our favourite moments have got to be different than most City fans. My most memorable moment was freezing in the Kop on a cold March night watching Leicester lose 1-0 to Preston in 2008! "Strange as that may seem, that night stands out because it was the first City game I'd ever attended after almost 10 years of following the team. The club and the locals showed me wonderful hospitality, and I was thrilled to finally be able to support the team in person - I just wish the result had gone the other way!" Meanwhile, Jason's favourite game is the side's Boxing Day win against Sheffield United this season for the simple reason that it was the first win he saw as a City supporter. He added: "We've been going down to Nevada Smith's to watch Leicester games for years and missed all of the good ones. In fact, out of all the Leicester games we'd watched there, we'd never seen them win until this past Boxing Day. "We're often the only Leicester fans there, but this time, a family of Leicester fans came in to watch the game while in New York on holiday. It made for a great atmosphere at the bar and helped kick off a great day, and night, on the town." The twins sense a positive and encouraging aura around the team: "Nigel Pearson and his squad did an outstanding job winning promotion from League One at the first time of asking, but following that with what could be the highest league finish City have achieved in years is perhaps even more impressive. "After a tough stretch in January, it's good to see the team turn things around with an eight game unbeaten run. In recent matches, they've shown that they can put the ball in the net, even after Matty Fryatt's unfortunate injury, and it's encouraging to see them gain momentum heading into the final third of the season." Jordan and Jason are avid followers of City's live text updates and often send each other shout-outs during games. City's shout-out goes to all Foxes fans abroad - just five home games remain to book that trip to Leicester and watch the Foxes challenge for the top six. Cat Burger Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Lovely article. It's a pity the guys were made into a bit of an advert at the end though shameless plugging of a bob service;
leicesterseddon Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 The 27-year-old New Yorkers have been City fans for over ten years, following the team via Foxes Player, Leicester City's exclusive online subscription service. Shameless
MC Prussian Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 This club just has a magic touch of turning every sincere supporter's statement into some sort of silly cash cow. Foxes Player wasn't even known ten years ago... Shameless advertising and a bit of a late publishing date (it should've been issued about a week ago). In a sportive way, the club looks like it's found the tournaround; publicity-wise, it's still lost in Stone Age. (At least now I know Jordan's got a twin bro)
AmericanScott Posted 15 March 2010 Posted 15 March 2010 Well played Jordan! If you read this Jordan, when the bit about Nevada Smiths bit popped up i'm 100% positive you knew my dad. He was the Leicester fan with gray curly hair. He was always in there years ago.
Jordan Posted 16 March 2010 Posted 16 March 2010 Yep, 'tis me, indeed. During the Doncaster game, my brother sent me a shout-out to the LCFC OS live text page, and then a few days after someone from LCFC sent us an email asking us to answer a few questions for the website. Sure, why not? So we answered their questions, sent them some photos (most of them were a bit ridiculous, I guess the one they used was the only "normal" one), and well, there you have it. Keeping in mind that this was gonna go on the OS, we kept a positive get-behind-the-lads tone. But really, Pearson and the boys have done so well that we had to give them all the props we could. For the record, I mentioned FoxesTalk (and Bentley's Roof) in my email but those references were omitted--no surprises there. It's probably hard to resist having a few laughs at us--even Jason and I think it's funny--but it's all good. Gotta show some love for LCFC in NY. Now get yo'selves some Platinum Plus memberships, punks!
moseeds Posted 16 March 2010 Posted 16 March 2010 Great stuff Jordan! I remember a few games back that amazing japanese woman flew over from Japan to watch us play at home. She is a huge city fan and I'm not sure how that happened! Nevertheless, what a great bunch of fans!

I've been told of a Leicester City bar in New York, l think the street its on is Murray street and the bar name is Harleys.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 16 March 2010 Posted 16 March 2010 Are you on commission? Did you receive anything from the club like free scarves? (If not, why not, my understanding of bankers are that they are all money grabbing w**kers, no direct offence meant!) Edit: I should delete the bankers bit, because I've read it again and its "New Yorkers Back" I have some how with my dislexia got New York Bankers from the first read, which is slow unbeleivable I thought I'd leave it in! Oh dear, I'm going mad.
Jordan Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Thanks for the tip, BNET; I haven't heard of that place but I'll find out more. Not far away on Warren St., there used to be a place called Nathan Hale's that had two City shirts over the bar. Oh, and I am a banker, by the way. :laugh:
