Really looking forward to this and the whole day/piss up in general

Usually is at Derby. Got a feeling this time will be better though.

Think we'll do them 2-1.

4-4-2

Berner (if fit)

No way Oakley will be dropped, even though he is probably our weakest.

Like the look of that. At least with Dyer his pace can get him out of jail if he does make a mistake.

If Berner is not back.

I would go 5-3-2/3-5-2.

Weale

Morrison --- Hobbs --- Brown

Adams -----------------------------------------Dyer

Wellens --- King --- Spearing

Gallagher --- Waghorn

Subs:

Logan

Powell

Solano

N'Guessan

Oakley

Kermorgant

Howard

By playing this formation, there are many positives:

1) NO MCGIVERN

2) We need added bite to the midfield which Oakley is not providing and I feel that Spearing could add this. VITAL FOR A DERBY GAME.

3) We have greater attacking options. Espescially with two upfront.

4) I feel that teams may have just worked out our 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation of late (not saying that I don't like it)

5) Solano needs a rest.

6) As Thracian says, we need goalscorers. Brown and Weale (obviously) are the only players who wouldn't really provide a threat.

Surely there's someone who can play LB who's not McGivern. Can Bruce play there?

Not after just having keyhole sugery on his groin.

Berner will be back in a week or so i hope! Just got to weather the storm on the right flank!

As much as I dislike mcgivern, his last 2 performances have been an inprovement. (not saying they have been good, but better than his last!) Maybe Chrisy P shold have a run out!

Would have takena draw if we had picked up 4 poitns from the last two games, now I think we have to win to keep the gap at a good 7 points.

Must win game really isn't it, well we certainly need at least a point and a good performance to boot. Win it and it keeps the pessimistic and all the morons quiet, going into the cardiff game on the back of a collapse against coventry and 2 defeats would even get me leaking slightly from my stinkhole going into the remaining fixtures. The last away game I went to was Blackpool, I don't expect Derby to present anything like the sort of fluent attacking play we defended so resolutely against up there. Come on leicester

Thats a really decent side, especially as you say for a derby game

I really like the added midfield bite in there which should free king up to arrive late in the box (hopefully)

I think Pearson has a real dilemma here.

We are 4th in the league and most people feel we have a playoff place nailed on. We have got to where we are by playing in an intense and physical (not in a dirty way) style that may be predictable but has in the main been effective.

Opposition teams know what to expect from us and most set up accordingly so when we are not at our best, as in the last two games, we tend to struggle. There are so many games at the moment, the next 5 in just 15 days that it is hardly surprising if we are feeling the pace.

So; Do we continue as we have been with largely the same side and hope that Pearson can keep them going for just a few more games,

or; do we make some meaningful changes and try and freshen things up.

With the cushion we have I really think he's got to take a few risks and rest some players, it's no use flogging them to death to ensure a playoff spot if they are then to knackered to perform in the actual play-offs. We've got Adams, N'Guessan, Kermorgant, Spearing, Vaughan, Bruce when fit not forgetting Brown and Neilson even Powell that can be used to rest first choice players. Obviously not all at once and not necessarily for whole game but longer than 10 minutes.

people like Lloyd Dyer & Waghorn look shot by the hour mark atm, he needs to start dipping some of them in and out of the starting line up for the net few games just to prevent fatigue and injury, we have 2 wingers sat on the bench doing not much so Dyer is an easy swap, either Kermorgant or Vaughan could play the lone striker role or even revert to a 4-4-2 with Howard and Gallagher up top.

either way the starting 11 needs freshening up

But Dyer has hit such a good run of form recently, that he's been our best player for the past few games.

So he needs to be in the team for the next few games, especially considering how important it is that we get some points from the upcoming games, and I don't think any other of our wingers can perform as good as Dyer at the moment.

Didn't I read somewhere that Spearing can play left-back? If so, either he, Dyer, Powell or My Nan would be preferable to McGivern tomorrow.

That is an interesting thought!

Came up several times on his thread that he can play either fullback position, given the instability down our left flank when Berner is absent maybe he would be worth a go...

Unless Solano has outstanding recuperative powers a back line of Morrison - Hobbs - Brown - Spearing might be worth a look.

Similarly in midfield I would give Oakley a break and play Gallagher alongside King and Wellens. I know Gallagher is not great defensively but in a 3 man midfield that is not so big an issue providing he makes the effort and gets up and down with his partners. I think greater involvement will help his game as we saw against Newcastle and Blackpool.

This makes space for Waghorn to move back to his best position on the right and I would bring in N'Guessan or maybe Vaughan to lead the line.

I'd change things very slightly and go with:

Weale

Spearing Hobbs Brown Morrison

Gallagher Wellens King

Dyer Waghorn N'Guessan

Lots of pace on the flanks and an attacking set-up. Waggy's decent in the air and a terrier in the middle, so that front three could tear Derby's defence to shreds. I'd feel for any left-back who had to deal with a combo of Spearing-Gallagher-Dyer.

Two largely untried fullbacks might be pushing things a bit too far but our back line really does need sorting out and I see where you are coming from.

Still much prefer Waggy on the right, I think it is easily his best position and his game loses something when given the responsibility of leading the line. Deployed on the right he can use his pace to go wide or cut inside on his stronger left foot, much more dangerous than just hammering away down the middle.

I have long been of the opinion that N'Guessan would make a decent center forward, he is quick, strong and plays the target man role well, as we saw as early as the game at St. James Park. He is strong in the air and has a good first touch with ball played up to him and I maintain that a player who can control the ball quickly and gain a couple of yards, if only for a few seconds is priceless in and around the box.
