marbelladave Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Can everyone please just stop agreeing with each other? Rational debate is the new abuse...
Dr The Singh Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Galagher is most useful when he is the focal point of all our attacking play, he then becomes a player that dictates play and pulls the string. Playing him in a conventional winger, striker or attacking midfielder role does not suit his game!!

Bettsj2 Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 Busy day, so quite a few points to reply to: Certainly no-where near effective enough in the air to play as a central striker and - - does not have the 'instincts' of a striker close to goal, he has fluffed a number of decent chances around the 6 yard box and his goals come from the edges of the 18 yard box. That, for me, makes him a creative, goalscoring midfield player. Fair enough view, but I disagree. King and Wellens in front of our powerful back 4 should be enough 'muscle'. As has been pointed out by virtually everyone, it's creativity that is lacking and for the moment Gallagher is the most likely player to provide it. Interestingly Gallagher's performances against Newcastle and Blackpool were the most involved he has been all season. In wide positions he gets isolated and doesn't get enough ball so he seems to lose a bit of interest, didn't happen in those games when he was deputising for Wellens. I accept what you say about his tackling but so long as he does his share and closes people down then with King and Wellens it should be enough. Completely fair opinion. I just like one central midfielder to be able to dominate and overpower. although I definitely agree that a back 4 of Morrison, Hobbs, Brown and Berner is the most physically dominating since Kamarrk, Walsh, Elliott and Grayson
Dr The Singh Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 So, maybe an "unconventional attacking midfield role"...?... I was thinking centre of defence, maybe that way we will have a defender that can pass a ball and take decent free kicks!!!
marbelladave Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 I was thinking centre of defence, maybe that way we will have a defender that can pass a ball and take decent free kicks!!! So that's it, sorted... Gallagher as a 1930's style attacking center half...
Bettsj2 Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 So that's it, sorted... Gallagher as a 1930's style attacking center half... I think we're all happy with that. Case closed.
Dr The Singh Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 So that's it, sorted... Gallagher as a 1930's style attacking center half... I didn't know you watched so much footy of the 30's, i presumed you were alot older then that!!!!
RowlattsFox Posted 15 April 2010 Posted 15 April 2010 I do think he's slightly overated, but I do like him and he's a good player to have in the squad. He has only scored in 3 games this season (and yes they were important) but for a a player who is attacking and a regular, I don't think thats good enough. I think he works a lot harder than I expected, or atleast gives the impression that he does. You can tell he's been working on his heading too since he became target for goal kicks. Overall I'm happy to see him in the side, I think he's due a performance this weekend.
marbelladave Posted 16 April 2010 Posted 16 April 2010 Easily one of our best players. So lets get him more involved...
Bellend Sebastian Posted 16 April 2010 Posted 16 April 2010 He seems to be doing ok On a less trite note, does anyone know what position Plymouth used him in last season? His goal return was a bit better there, if I remember rightly
Legend_in_blue Posted 16 April 2010 Posted 16 April 2010 The cautious approach adopted by NP and his tactics often limit Gallagher's performance on the pitch. When the team is more attacking and open, he tends to flourish. I don't think his ability, technique, commitment etc can be questioned. The way in which he is used in the team on the other hand can. He's the best player in the team bar two or three players.
Joe. Posted 16 April 2010 Posted 16 April 2010 He's the best player in the team bar two or three players.

Frenzied Posted 16 April 2010 Posted 16 April 2010 So lets get him more involved... Sorry, I don't do cryptic.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 16 April 2010 Posted 16 April 2010 No matter what anyone says about his goalscoring record, hes a constant threat. 6 goals, crucial ones n all. Gave us breathing space v Forest, hattrick to give us one of our best results of the season, and two genius goals v Palace which won us the game, nobody else looked a threat that day. Thats good enough for me. I rate him as a player. He Will come good. Im glad we signed him for around 800k when at the time the fans where desperate for us to offer around 3 million for Beckford.
flanimal Posted 16 April 2010 Posted 16 April 2010 If Dany N'Guessan had Fryatt's trickery and finishing ability, then the key would be to play Gallagher alongside him as the goal provider. But if N'Guessan had Fryatt's trickery and finishing, he'd be worth about £6m and would be playing for someone else, so my statement is utterly pointless!
Guest parky0607 Posted 17 April 2010 Posted 17 April 2010 No matter how skilled he is, he works his bum off, and shows a lot of passion which is great to see. I don't think he's a goal scorer, like fryatt but I do think he's a fantastic attacking midfielder / second striker
Anish Posted 17 April 2010 Posted 17 April 2010 Great goal today with his left foot and he played well too. Probably only got subbed off to inject more pace in our attack after Howard was sent off. Overall, technically our best player and one of our most creative. He needs to get more goals but I'm still a bit fan of his.
Legend_in_blue Posted 17 April 2010 Posted 17 April 2010 I said it earlier this week, I'll say it again now, this guy is QUALITY. That was another great goal today. Our best attacking option along with Waghorn up front. He can create something out of nothing and that could be crucial in the play-off games.
Corky Posted 17 April 2010 Posted 17 April 2010 Really good today, super goal, good touches and excellent work-rate. Shame really he was substituted, but his replacement was equally effective.
rmc Posted 17 April 2010 Posted 17 April 2010 Great picture on the OS of him karate kicking the corner flag.
