Brainy Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 it's hard to believe anything will ever stop these mindless goons from doing things like this, but we'll never know until they are for once severly punished. punishments such as suspended fines and bans are a total waste of time.
Part Of The Crowd Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 I agree that a points deduction is too much. There will probably be a fine for the club and if they're unlucky a couple of games will have to be played behind doors, which would be much more suitable than a points deduction.
Tommeh Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 It was a football match not a war, what's to defend a few excited fans on the pitch? You seem to rejoice in all this shit and it's arses like that which ensure we're all treated like cattle and second class citizens - frankly I don't understand your attitude. Having a good time doesn't have to involve fighting and violence. Hmmm.....It's obvious fans have a lot of pride in their pitch and ground and can certainly see where wednesday fans were coming from, not many clubs going would've acted any differently. Would you really expect the Kop at Filbert street to just stand there had a few hundred fans invade the pitch having just sent us down? Not using the Walkers as an example as this sort of thing would never happen due to more flurescent jacketsthan fans. Going for some players and reporters down the tunnel I admit was very wrong. I certainly don't condone it and yes I do realises it has implications on our matchdays throughout the country. Rejoice? Hardly but as someone who studies this sort of stuff I do find it pretty interesting and was just giving my thoughts on it all seeing it from both sides.

In what way would that be a waste of time? If they can't get in the ground, they can't cob coins at anyone. Simple. Makes more sense than robbing the team of points in any case.
Budweiser Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 Why? What does a points deduction prove? It's an inappropriate punishment. Do you really think it would stop these mindless goons from ever doing it again? Must agree. A points deduction would be, as you said, inaporopiate. It's bang out of order what the Luton fans did, but the fans that took part in the disgraceful scenes should be punished themselves. I'd be pretty pissed off if I was a Luton fan, who just went home after the game, to then find out that the club has been docked points, when the majority of fans there today behaved finely. Even more so because of the way Luton have been treated with the docking points system in recent years as well. I disagree completely with the docking of points in most situations. For example, clubs that are deducted -30 at the start of the season may as well just be relegated and have the time to rebuild rather than allow the fans to endure a painful season. Just a thought..

Well if they think like you then yes I wouldn't expect them to stand there but what do you expect to gain by physically confronting them, violence! How does that solve any problems, they've invaded the pitch they're not going to walk away either. Can't you see they are just excited fans why does there have to be a response to 'defend' their pitch it's a nonsense and pathetic point of view. certainly entertaining from the stands Sounds to me like you did rejoice in it, how you can even find it entertaining is beyond me all I see is mindless idiots resulting in ever more control and policing and putting back the case for safe standing. Makes me bloody angry.

They got what they achieved, the opposition off their pitch as I said it's a pride thing, emotions were running high and things like this happen, luckily far less frequently these days. Not often I'll say this but the stewarding and Policing was spot on. Entertaining is possibly the wrong phrase I concede, interesting and surreal on my part would cover it best especially for someone in their early 20's who started going when all this stopped and seeing is it crops up very often in my studies it is incredibly fascinating. Obviously I now await the generic response making me out to be some 16 year old Green street noshing fvcktard.

As you say your choice of words was misleading which I'm pleased to hear as I can understand the academic interest in what makes people behave in this way and are seeming incapable of controlling their emotions. All I'd say is if they can't then please stay away so you don't spoil it for those that can.
ramboacdc Posted 3 May 2010 Posted 3 May 2010 thats terrible. i understand if you lose in the playoffs its bad and if youve been treated by the FA like they have you would be pissed off but thats uncalled for. the poor york players. If we lose to cardiff you wouldnt see me throwing a bottle at chopra or whatever. just shows that in some cases, the lower down the league you go the stupider the fans can be sometimes (no offence intended for the regulars who follow their lower league teams and dont decide to be yobs. the "shirt and thermos flask" people as they were called earlier )

It's an issue I try to keep an open mind over that's all, I've read up pretty thoroughly and know some my age who have the odd involvment, once a season like. Then at the same time these people are the reasons for the authorities ways. What subject do you study mate? Sport Culture and Society Mikey boy.
purpleronnie Posted 4 May 2010 Posted 4 May 2010 I read that the luton fans reacted that way because a York player kicked a luton fan who was consoling a luton player, no idea if thats true or not. Not an excuse for that behaviour though but emotions were running high and people do react in a way they would never normally do, yes fans were on the pitch so what? They could have easily broke through the poilce and stewards if they really wanted to, and a few threw things. We will probably go completely OTT about this though. Punishment? Definately, I just hope they dont totally over react.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 4 May 2010 Posted 4 May 2010 This is the answer to all the problems.... Tasers http://ap.savannahnow.com/pstories/sports/20100504/632762277.shtml

Alexikokopops Posted 4 May 2010 Posted 4 May 2010 Are you for ****ing real? You really want to see Tasers at football games?? It's not quite the continental lager you know and love, but I think you should probably give this drink a try soon

Alexikokopops Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 The sad thing is it's the small minority of fans like this, and those at Hillsborough on Sunday, that lead to the police viewing all football fans as thugs, which in turn leads to restrictions on drinking/standing etc.
Shrenchel Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 Turns out it was the Norwegians. Shouldve known all along it would be them. They're always doing shit like this. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/beds/bucks/herts/8661623.stm
BHAFC Braders Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 not the first time they've done this either - when they beat us in the paint pot cup semi final they pelted us with coins and bottles (easiest fiver I've ever made) but the FA should throw the book at them , but lets face it they won't and bottle (no pun intended) it - as they have with pretty much everything this season.
purpleronnie Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 there are so few football hooligans in england nowadays we have to import them from norway. Anders Johansen, 37, from Drobak, Norway, will appear at Luton and South Bedfordshire Magistrates' Court, police said. And Valerenga said it was such a nice place.
Koke Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 Interesting how the York players are shitting their pants and covering their heads with their shirts, whilst 20 yards away you see York fans celebrating, not giving a shit and jumping around right in front of the Luton fans Sad scenes though. Luton will get heavy punishment for this.
ousefox Posted 5 May 2010 Posted 5 May 2010 Had a feeling something like this would happen as when i went to the home leg at York there were a lot of Luton fans trying to start fights for no reason with one Luton fan just barging into a York fan minding his own business. My mates who went to the game said that one of the chants they heard was EDL EDL.... Don't think they deserve a points deduction as the majority of the fans were fine and many have been apoligizing on York message boards, but I hope that anyone found throwing things at the York fans or players should be banned for a very long time.
