Dylan Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I don't want to look like someone just blaming everything on the ref, but i feel sorry for the players. There were about 6 major decisions in the tie, and 5 of them went Cardiff's way in my opinion. 1) The handball when their defender turned around and smacked it with his arm in the 1st leg. Looked a clear penalty to me. 2) The Gallagher shot at the end of the 1st leg, which was stopped with a hand. Would've been harsh but still easily could've been given. 3) The placing of Whittingham's freekick. Was moved about 4-5 yards central. City players were telling the ref, but was still taken in clearly the wrong position. 4) Jay Bothroyd- should've been sent off (in 1st leg). Comitted about 10 fouls. Ref was about to book him again, but put his yellow away once he realised it was Bothroyd. This is wrong in my opinion, if he was going to book him for an offence, shouldn't really matter whether he's already been booked. Costly too, cause he played well in the 2nd leg for them. 5) Nolberto Solano's "handball" from freekick. Same as point 2 really. 6) Chopra's penalty was CLEARLY offside. Im sorry, but the linesman has no excuse. It's not like one of them ones where the defenders running out and attackers running in. Our defence were holding a great line- great defending, and he was standing there. About 2-3 yards off, and the lineo was in line with it. Punished for good defending. I'm sure there was one more penalty shout for us in the 1st leg. The point is, i'm surprised none of the Leicester staff or players have made a point of this, as they had all the refs luck. If this happened to ManU, Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool, we'd be hearing it for days. The officiating was really poor over the 2 legs, and imo, Cardiff were really lucky to go through. EDIT- Another point I forgot is how reluctant Webb was to give Cardiff yellows, but just wanted to give us yellows, just like the first leg. And Chopra stood on Wellens quite clearly. Very sly, but i thought he meant it.
Narborough_fox Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 just shows how much of a shambles of the refereeing is in this country! We need something done soon!
dogadug Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 I thought the officiating was pretty good in the second leg. There were a few bad decisions in the first leg, but overall they could have gone in either teams favour. This thread just makes us look like bad losers, however I must say that the ref allowing their goalie to come off the line during the penalties when he had a clear view of it, and specifically told the goalies to not come off the line was an absolute JOKE. But rather than dwelling on these, lets look forward to getting promoted next season
Aeropars Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 Video technology. Not goal line technology but full blown video. Rugby works very well with it. Football can too.
Dylan Posted 13 May 2010 Author Posted 13 May 2010 Video technology. Not goal line technology but full blown video. Rugby works very well with it. Football can too. Yep. For big games like this, where they have the TV camera's. It'll take 30 seconds most, for someone like the 4th official to view the footage and advise the ref. For example, the Chopra penalty. It would take 5 seconds to get the right decision. One look is all it would've took.

Offside rule needs sorted out as well, FIFA really need to sort a lot of rulings out! They say it equals out over the season why can't they just end all the debates and just always get it right. i.e Video technology!
milan_foxes Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 How far Marshall was off his line for The Twats Peno.

Very sly, but i thought he meant it. It's important to stress that we had plenty of opportunities to put it right ourselves over 180 minutes BUT I just watched that offside again. He's not 2-3 yards offside but he is CLEARLY offside. Much in the same way as Drogba was against Manchester United, he is standing DIRECTLY BEHIND the last defender when the ball's played, meaning that there's no trick of the eye that can be played on the linesman by seeing the players on a slight angle. Neither player was really moving forwards or backwards at the time. It was a simple, simple decision.

Very sly, but i thought he meant it. All reasonable points to me. On point 4, after being warned, Bothroyd (already on a yellow) went on to commit another couple of fouls including one which the ref played advantage for; itt was a pull back iirc which would normally have been the last straw. It did seem like Bothroyd couldn't get sent off however hard he tried. I thought Chopra knew exactly what he was doing to Wellens, just like when players "accidentally" connect with flailing elbows and forearms.
Matt Posted 14 May 2010 Posted 14 May 2010 Where's DB11 gone recently? I'd like to see his views on certain things - That's not taking the piss, I honestly would like him to explain the rules of these certain highlighted things people have picked out.
atw88 Posted 14 May 2010 Posted 14 May 2010 You also forgot it took him 110 minutes to book Wellens about about 5 bad fouls. Ah.
The Doctor Posted 14 May 2010 Posted 14 May 2010 You also forgot it took him 110 minutes to book Wellens about about 5 bad fouls. Ah. and both failed to book chopra at all for 210 minutes worth of diving, handballs, having a go at the officials and a stamp. or how about only booking Quinn (i think) for pulling down berner in the dieing seconds of ET when berner was clean through otherwise or Failing to book ledley for that palm into howards face - regardless of intent that should be a booking

Yes, but it'll spoil the "beautiful, flowing nature of football" - or at least that's what the men in suits will be saying. +1 for video replays in matches where goal or red card decisions are in the balance.
Matt Posted 14 May 2010 Posted 14 May 2010 I'd like to see TV Replays, always called for them, probably always will. TBH not that it would change anything, make decisions right, e.t.c, but I wouldn't mind referee's being forced to do post match interviews when asked by the media to explain themselves and decision made - It might make referee look into decision abit more, think about decisions more bearing in mind they may be grilled on the decision after the match, I have always said and never denied referee have a hard job, everyone makes mistakes, but referees decisions are getting worse - Maybe thats because the games getting even faster, but surely that points to the fact officials need more to aid them with decisions? Fuck the F.A's respect campaign, I find it insulting as a fan to be preached about respecting them when the F.A and FIFA do nothing to help the officials, I'll start respecting and have sympathy for them when the F.A and FIFA respect their own employees by helping them.
Leicester Bean Posted 17 May 2010 Posted 17 May 2010 I agree Dylan, I know it's over now and it's alright people saying "it's over, forget about it" but say we make the play-offs next year.. do you really want the same thing to happen as has happened these play-offs?
yorksfox Posted 17 May 2010 Posted 17 May 2010 We have to simply move on and forget about officiating. My 'other' team Huddersfield Town were fortunate on Saturday in that Millwall were denied two cast iron penalties but we'll still be whinging tomorrow night if we go out to an off side goal! I think City's team selection (for both Cardiff games) was questionable and Cardiff totally outplayed us for 70 minutes at The Walkers.
Scow Posted 17 May 2010 Posted 17 May 2010 Bothroyd was given an easy ride in both legs - particularly in the second leg where he seemed to get a free kick every time he went down. It's quite easy to slate refs after you've lost, but I think we can feel hard done by overall.
