morris1234 Posted 27 May 2010 Posted 27 May 2010 Leicester have missed out on their first transfer target of the summer in striker Nacho Novo, Vital Leicester understands. Novo was on Nigel Pearson's radar this summer, but the striker has instead opted for a move back home to his native Spain with Sporting Gijon. The 31-year-old turned down the offer of a new contract at Scottish champions Rangers after six years with the club, after a season of bit-part appearances for Walter Smith's side. The news will come as a blow to Leicester manager Nigel Pearson who had hoped to secure the services of the Spaniard, according to sources close to the club. Instead his attentions will now turn elsewhere, with several names already linked for the coming transfer window. Ipswich centre back Alex Bruce looks set for a permanent switch to the Walkers following a loan spell last year after being deemed surplus to requirements at Portman Road. Meanwhile Pearson is also hoping to secure the services of another loanee from last season, Jay Spearing, according to reports. Another season long loan is rumoured to be in the club's best interest, and the Leicester manager will hope to tie up the services of the Liverpool youngster once more. Jon25747 Posted 27 May 2010 Posted 27 May 2010 Could have done a job at this level. Shame we missed out but its good that NP is looking at this sort of player in my opinion.
Pst Posted 27 May 2010 Posted 27 May 2010 Weren't we linked with him when Craig Levein took over a few years ago?
CupidStunt Posted 27 May 2010 Posted 27 May 2010 Weren't we linked with him when Craig Levein took over a few years ago? correct me if i am wrong, but i thought martin O'Neill tried to sign him a long time ago, before he was at rangers
Finnegan Posted 27 May 2010 Posted 27 May 2010 Would only have been a squad player I think. If he was coming on a fairly small contract then it's a shame, he may have done alright here, but it's not a gutting loss.
Sparky Posted 27 May 2010 Posted 27 May 2010 Just to throw anothers managers name in i thought it was Micky Adams who tried to sign him
bluebeau Posted 27 May 2010 Posted 27 May 2010 I think you will find that it was Matt Gillies that tried to sign him.
Dom_Harborough Fox Posted 27 May 2010 Posted 27 May 2010 Weren't we linked with him when Craig Levein took over a few years ago? Yes we were. Summer of 2005 I think. I remember reading the story in one of the tabloids on the train on the way to year 11 work experience
Ric Flair Posted 28 May 2010 Posted 28 May 2010 It was definitely Adams in 2003, when we went back up.
Alexikokopops Posted 28 May 2010 Posted 28 May 2010 correct me if i am wrong, but i thought martin O'Neill tried to sign him a long time ago, before he was at rangers It was definitely Adams in 2003, when we went back up. Yeah. It was between us and Rangers and Rangers beat us.
