Didn't swansea start slowly last season?

1 win in the first 8 games. :ermm:

Wouldn't read too much into that though.

Just listened to an interview with NP and he says he has taken our head of sports science Paul Balsom and Matt Reeves who is the reserve sport scientist (the young one) to Hull. If i am right this only leaves us with the Academy sports scientist unless Sousa has brought any from Swansea.....

In other news i am off to the York- Hull friendly today so i'll be able to see how good Hull are looking.

This is perhaps my biggest concern out of the whole scenario. Lets hope they get replaced with someone equally as good.

It is due to the sports science department that we had such a fit squad over the last two seasons. Something I believe to be vital part of a successfull football club.

Im not too worried, yet!, as i'm sure Sousa and his team know what they're doing! I'm sure that the team that Pearson has taken away isn't the only sports science and fitness team around and that there are equal teams to be had?

When we played them on the first game of last season (I think) I thought they looked like relegation material. Obviously they must have improved since then.

I believe the theory is that you get fitter over the season, meaning you don't get worn out as fast and should be less prone to injury. Whether that actually works I'm not sure.

what druds are you lot on. they have only gone back last wednsday so stop you're moaning . start to complain if we are struggling by mid season

I think the majority of comments to this are observations to what they've seen and read about our pre-season so far; hardly moaning is it.

besides; why do we have to wait until things are going tits up before we make a point about it!?!?

I was listening to the post match interviews and the post match phone in yesterday on Iplayer, and there was lots of talk about our lack of fitness. And it appears that our fitness coach (i think) Jordan Milsom, has gone to Liverpool according to Ian Stringer - i then searched it and found this

I just wondering how much effect that would have on the teams fitness?

If this has been posted elsewhere, then I apologize. But it was just incase some people didnt know - cos i didnt.

I don't think the fitness issue is something fans should be too concerned about. My understanding is that Jordan Milsom wasn't playing that large a role in the fitness side of things, as the club announced a couple of years back that they'd agreed a 5 year association deal with Loughborough University to oversee the sports science at the club. If you take a closer look at Jordan Milsom's background, aside from a few spells with relatively small clubs within the footballing pyramid he was a man with limited experience. I understand Pearson took some of the other fitness staff with him when he went to Hull but providing we are still working with Loughborough Uni (Which I assume we are) then I don't really see any problems, as the Uni guys would have had the biggest input into their training programme. Remember periodised training programmes can be difficult to implement and it may be the case that the team is still training within their base phase to ensure that they don't peak too early. If this is the case the players will be developing their fitness as the season progresses with the aim to peak during the second half of the season when other clubs whose preparation wasn't so good may start to tire.

Not sure why people are thinking this is a problem. Sometimes players get injured and some players are fitter than others. That is the same in every team throughout the land. And I was very surprised to hear Ian Stringer mention concerns about fitness when the player concerned that was blowing was Bruno Berner (32 and carrying an injury from the tail end of last season). Are some fans just looking for reasons to have a dig?

By most accounts not much going off Saturday, people I've spoken to said we were stronger than them second half. Over the course of a season, who knows?
