Frenzied Posted 24 May 2005 Posted 24 May 2005 Back to Douglas though. I know this isn't much to go on but I've been discussing the merits of Douglas with a couple of friends both of whom are of the trainspotter ilk when it comes to football and both have described him as a great keeper. One even compared him to the likes of Jens Lehman, in that he is a good keeper but tends to bugger things up on the big occassions, which fits in with what Celtic fans think. I've also been told that he's better than Walker. I know this is just hearsay but I think if we sign him we need to give him a chance - he could be an excellent capture.
Stuliasz Posted 24 May 2005 Posted 24 May 2005 Walker's reputation is very harsh on him I feel. Not many outside of Leicester rated him but he has been very consistent for us over the seasons with only one spell in which he made 3 or 4 major errors, but he came through that strongly and I think we will miss him.

I think he had one bad season at Spurs and made a few high profile booboos. But Douglas' problem has only been a few high profile mistakes. the same is true of an number of other keepers, such as Jens Lehmann and you just have to see how he performed last Saturday. Also, Douglas has performed at a much higher level than if he were to come to us ie Europe, Old Firm etc.
Louise Posted 24 May 2005 Posted 24 May 2005 Maybe the new Celtic manager will want to keep Douglas...

Solihullfox Posted 28 May 2005 Posted 28 May 2005 Subtle comment from the commentator as Rab Douglas collected his winner's medal at the Scottish Cup Final a few minutes ago. " Rab Douglas one of the players who is leaving Celtic, to join Leicester City." Obviously it's common knowledge.
Hazza Posted 28 May 2005 Posted 28 May 2005 Yeah i heard that, he said it at the start of the game aswell: "..and back to Rab Douglas, his last game for Celtic for moving south to the English Championship to join Craig Levein's Leicester"
Louise Posted 29 May 2005 Posted 29 May 2005 Well if it wasn't definite before, it looks as if it is now... FOOTBALL: SCOTTISH CUP: DOUGLAS IN FOXES TALKS May 29 2005 RAB DOUGLAS will break off from his Scottish Cup celebrations this week to travel south in a bid to finalise his move to Leicester City. The Celtic keeper's appearance in yesterday's final looks certain to be the last match of his four-and-a-half year Hoops career. Douglas revealed he has already had talks with Foxes boss Craig Levein and will have another meeting he hopes will end in a deal at the Walkers Stadium. He said: 'Hopefully we'll get it sorted out this week. Going to Leicester would be like a fresh start. There are a few Scots boys there so it would be good. 'But it's great to win the Scottish Cup and if it turns out that I finish my career by keeping a clean sheet in the final then great, I'll be delighted. 'I can't say I've been in a dressing room like that where there's a chance so many guys are leaving. 'Although a few are out of contract you never know what will happen.' Douglas know it's been a golden era for Celtic under Martin O'Neill but admitted the disappointment of losing the league lingered despite the Cup victory. He said: 'The boys were devastated last week and we just wanted to win the final". http://www.sundaymail.co.uk/sport/tm_objec...-name_page.html
Simon Posted 29 May 2005 Posted 29 May 2005 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...ity/4591501.stm Douglas set for Foxes decision Celtic goalkeeper Rab Douglas is set to hold more talks with Leicester about a possible move to the Walkers Stadium. The Scotland international has already had preliminary discussions with Foxes boss and former Hearts head coach Craig Levein about coming down to England. Douglas, 32, who joined the Bhoys from Dundee in October 2000, will be out of contract at Parkhead this summer. He said: "I am going down to Leicester. I have spoken to Craig Levein and we will take it from there."
