foxoffderby Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 ESPN Classic Sky 429 6.55pm today From what I remember we were losing and were a couple of goals down then we came back to 3 3 and I think Swindon won 4-3. I think Steve Thompson who is assistent manager at Blackpool now scored one of our goals but im not sure. Glen Hoddle was player manger and he was playing sweeper. He had a stormer and was the difference between the two teams. I think he set up at least one of their goals and scored one. Gutted. What a game though

What a game though 3-0 down, came back to 3-3 Thommo getting the equaliser and then for the 2nd year running went out to weak penalty claim. Agony, Ecstasy followed by total dejection! But a fantastic memory, well upto the equaliser.
stripeyfox Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Never forget Steve Thomson rolling the ball home for 3-3. A few moments later, David Oldfield had a chance which turned out to be out last opportunity of the match - I think the 3 goals in 15 minutes or whatever it was took its toll. Still, every cloud and all that - that defeat paved the way for the Wembley win against Derby a year later.
Stand UP... Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Heart breaking game. Never had so many ups' and down's in my life let alone 90+ minutes.
Lisburn Fox Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 I was at this game, girlfriend at the time was putting the flag in the back window for the trip home I closed the boot to early and chopped the end of 3 of her fingers off (Ouch!!), my abiding memory was the elation at the equaliser, then disbelief at the penalty. She drove home and dropped me off at the pub before popping off to the infirmary, didn't see her again (wonder why).. SKY + to add to the collection.
Sparky Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Thompson equaliser still raises the hairs on the back of the neck now. Quality stuff
isaidno Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Thompson equaliser still raises the hairs on the back of the neck now. Quality stuff Likewise , Thompson's goal is one of my favourite ever. Thompson was my favourite player when I was a lad.
Corky Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Thompson's finish was fabulous. To show that sort of composure in the situation was class.
AndyBrew Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Amazing game, I was watching it in the pub, when we equalised I threw an entire pint of tiger over the landlord who was collecting glasses
dave_the_fox Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Oh! My first (of many) trips to Wembley! Werent we lucky as Leicester fans back then!?
grth2004 Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 T his was my first ever football match at wembley , made the mistake of drinking god knows how much beer before the game then couldnt stop nipping off to the toilet missed the first two goals but my mate had the crowd around me shouting to go for another piss to see if we could score again , amazing day but very sad journey home on the train. The next year against derby made up for it though.
Foxblogger Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 For those who missed it and have a PVR there's a repeat at about 2 a.m. tonight. Thanks for the heads up davieG.

Foxblogger Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 That was foxoffderby My apologies. Good work by all involved!
stripeyfox Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 I think Pleat was doing the commentary on ITV that day. When I watched it back on video, he managed to create about 18 different ways of pronouncing "Joachim". Jo-chim, Joa-cheem, Jo-ak-eem etc etc. What a pillock!
Sylvie85 Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 Remember my dad and all my uncles fooking off to wembley and me and my cousins watched it at my grandads, remember going 3-0 down and going out to play football in the garden, when I came back in it was 3-3, then they scored, always felt somehow it was my fault!!
wacky Posted 3 August 2010 Posted 3 August 2010 Heart breaking game. Never had so many ups' and down's in my life let alone 90+ minutes. Got to agree with that quote, never before have i been so down at half-time (nearly walked out & gone back to the pub) . After Blackburn & then Swindon i thought it was never going to happen for us. I suppose it nearly never if it wasn't for Walshy against the sheep shagger's. JUSTICE!!!

We were only 1-0 down at half-time? Unless we were playing so ineptly and awful that you felt that way, but we were only one goal behind!?
