Sooper Steve's shin Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 Moreno is our man. If we get all our squad fit, I think the only position that needs strengthening is on the wing and possibly up front. Andy King is our most important player, his improvement in the past few years has been sensational. I agree with Marbelladave that our team should be built around utilising his ability to score goals and hurt opposition with his composure and movement. I would imagine Sousa will do this over time as he was a midfielder himself and as Wellens isn't 'one of his' players, he won't have as much affiliation with playing him if it's not what our side needs to perform how we want to. I thought it was interesting, though, that Sousa subbed King on Saturday. It seemed to be due to tiredness more than anything, but Nigel Pearson would never have subbed him.

It seemed to be due to tiredness more than anything, but Nigel Pearson would never have subbed him. It's a strange thing the views on Andy King. According to some he can do no wrong and is our best player, some think he flitters in and out of games and some just dont rate him at all. When you watch him play he doesnt appear to have a particularly good range of passing, never wins a header when challenging in midfield, not particularly quick and just looks awkward, yet he's always the one breaking into the box, his heading ability in the area is probably the best we have and he rarely loses possesion. Many people say the same about Frank Lampard in that he does nothing in games other than score. I think we all need to accept that King is a player that you wont notice until he scores because whilst he might not set the world on fire, he actually does nothing wrong on the pitch whatsoever.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 He is only 21 (I think) as well, so another couple of seasons development and we could be onto a possible amazing player. I'm just not sure whether the side should be based around him yet, although, if hes not ready now, he never will be, he is not a youngster anymore.

I think that is a little unfair, he does a lot that is right too, but in a calm understated way, Defensively he rarely sprints 20 yards to put in a thumping tackle because he is rarely 20 yards out of position, he cuts off angles, closes down and generally breakes up the opposition play in a way the seems to go un-noticed. In possession he moves the ball quickly and our attacks have more pace and bite as a consequence, arriving late he gets goals too, quite possibly cheated of one on saturday too... I'm trying not to build him up to be more than what he is, he is probably not robust enough to be a 'proper' defensive midfielder, he is not the quickest and his long passing is not great but overall, I rate him very highly!
hackneyfox Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 I think we need better wingers and maybe a attacking midfielder who can get 15+ goals. A long term RB who is young is also what I want. We've got one, he's only 30, could have another 4 years left of his game yet.

Leicester_Loyal Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 We've got one, he's only 30, could have another 4 years left of his game yet. I don't think Oakley will get 15+ goals a season. I can't see anyone in our midfield getting 15+, and I think thats where we will come undone, unless something is done about it.
AaronH Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 i dont think we need a midfielder that scores 15+ goals, what we do need is oakley and wellens to chip in with 3 or 4 each, as it would have made a diffrence last season

Our CB's don't score goals like they used to, hence us being one of the lowest scoring teams around.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 Hopefully Moreno is the man for the job, but I think we did miss out on some more proven players.

He gets in the team for his fiesty, combative play and that is no longer enough. Oakley, if he stays in the side is going to be play the anchor roll and he will not score many from there. The answer once again is Andy King and people still do not see it! He scored 10 goals last season in a team that largely ignored his talent and played route 1 much of the time. He is easily our most accomplished finisher, getting his strikes on target more often than anyone else and even better, is usually able to pick his spot. So far this season he has scored in both the games, one unfairly given offside, and even got a goal on international duty, what more do you want. Once we get our midfield properly sorted King will score plenty, quite possible your 15+. And some people still talk of dropping him...
Leicester_Loyal Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 Ah right, sorry, hopefully another 4 years, but at the age of 30, would we be better off going for someone younger with more pace?

Completely agree with this bit, no-one else comes close in terms of finesse. I was watching last years goals on YouTube last week, for nearly every one of his goals (including his headers) he looks up, picks his spot and simply slides it in.

His goalscoring is extremely useful, we'd be mad to lose that by dropping him. Just because he doesn't play expansive passes doesn't mean he isn't in the game, he's probably the best in the side at keeping possession. King will get 15+ goals a season if given licence.

But you would still rather play Wellens......right?
The Padster Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 King will get 15+ goals a season if given licence. Totally agree with this. Also agree we should really consider building the team around him, to give him the freedom he needs to score the 15+ goals.
MitchLCFC Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 I think Peter Wittingham would be a great signing, with him and king playing in midfield we would score tonnes from midfield.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 17 August 2010 Posted 17 August 2010 I've never really watched City, apart from the odd game, this is my first year as a season ticket holder, but I'd love for Sousa to use King as you lot are saying. If it works, you will be the reason why we would be doing so well, would be good for the site haha.
hackneyfox Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 So you've seen one game so far? You've certainly got a lot of opinions based on one game.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 So you've seen one game so far? You've certainly got a lot of opinions based on one game. This season at home yes? I went Palace away, and went a lot in previous seasons. The only season I never went was last season, because I didn't have the time.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 18 August 2010 Posted 18 August 2010 Sorry, misread your first post Its fine mate. Although I tell you, if you can't make a game, listen to it on the radio, really gets you going, especially when we score.
