Babylon Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/news/Lee-Hoos-says-Leicester-City-won-t-held-ransom-transfers/article-2585316-detail/article.html Chief executive Lee Hoos says Leicester City will not be held to ransom over potential transfer targets. The transfer window closes at 6pm today and City are looking to bring in at least three new players – two strikers and a defender. Since City were taken over by the Asia Football Investments consortium and Vichai Raksriaksorn said at a press conference in Bangkok that manager Paulo Sousa would be given a £10 million transfer budget, there has been the perception that City are flush with cash. However, Hoos, below right, said City would not pay over the odds, and he said they would not make any big-name signing just for the sake of it. "There is always the danger that clubs think we have a lot of money when new owners come in, but people have had that perception for a while now," said Hoos. "It is about market value and not what cash is coming in. That is always the argument you have with people. "For me it is about what you bring in and not what you pay for it. "You can over-pay for anything and sometimes you can get good deals. It is how the player fits in that is the key. "The budget behind that is always important but it is about getting the right player at the right time. "We have a very good core squad and it would be really foolish to go and sign half-a-dozen players right now, big names or whatever, because people perceive we have money. It doesn't mean the team would gel. It is about a few additions. "Signing a name because you want a name is absolutely the wrong thing to do. "It has to be the right player who fits into the changing room, the squad and the style of play. "At the end of the day the most important thing is the ones the manager wants, not what the fans want to see." Hoos said Sousa was under no pressure to sell any of his existing squad. But he would not rule out selling if a big offer came in for any of the club's stars. "I personally have a philosophy that there is no one player who is bigger than the club," he said. "I have had situations in the past where a manager has said this player is not for sale under any circumstances, then Manchester United or whoever has shown up at the door and the player has thrown his toys out of the pram because he wants to go – or the value is so great you have to sell the player. There is always that scenario of one of the big boys coming in. "But I don't see us going out there trying to flog anyone. I can't predict whether or not anyone will leave the club. I have just learned over the years that, even if you see nothing on the horizon, come transfer deadline-day something happens."
davieG Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 It also helps you to avoid paying over the odds if you don't leave it until the last minute especially when you've had 3 months to do the business.
Babylon Posted 31 August 2010 Author Posted 31 August 2010 So no Abe then... I believe this is on top of that as he has already signed, just needs clearance.
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 It also helps you to avoid paying over the odds if you don't leave it until the last minute especially when you've had 3 months to do the business. The problem is though that now they have transfer windows, clubs seem to trying to out do each other in brinkmanship. We have done it to Blackpool successfully for DJ. When so much business in the football world hinges on a player leaving a club before the selling club buy this imo is why more business is not done in the close season now. Should have kept the old system.

Ric Flair Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 Has the Thai's money only just been cleared or are we being set up for a big fall? It always baffles me why teams go wild on the last day, it's not as if Sousa has only just been appointed is it?

FrankieADZ Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 just heard on Sky Sports News that City have made an enquiry for John Utaka. Could do a job, but his wages might be a bit large

CKB Posted 31 August 2010 Posted 31 August 2010 Well if you look at it from how today has panned out Williams was the defender but we failed with our bid Waghorn was the striker and we got him Rochina was the other and we will probs end up signing him on loan anyhow So potentially 2 outta 3 isn't bad, although Williams coming would have been a top signing
