Leicester City Hall of Fame?

Do City have an actual Hall of Fame or legends list, as some other clubs do?

What are your opinions on what constitutes a player to have legend status? Is a legend different to a cult hero? The term legend is mentioned frequently to describe past players, but surely only the cream should gain legend status.

Who would get in your Leicester City hall of fame/legends list?

Banks, Shilton, Lineker, Weller, Walsh are an obvious start.

We do have a legends topic in the archive/big forum of history - http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showforum=17 but it doesn't cover any players from the pre O'Neill days because when we did it there were many more posters who saw players in that period as their legends as they weren't 'around' prior to that so earlier ones didn't get much of a demand to be included.

For instance my absolute best ever player is Davie Gibson but there's only half a dozen posters on here that have seen him play or even heard of him.

If people want to add new names to that topic let me know and they need to be prepared to add some info to it.

As for LCFC it's only in recent years that they even bothered to notice past players hence Stoke's adoption of Gordon Banks and their statue even though he won his World Cup medal, played in 2 FA Cup finals, and won the League Cup with us.

Thanks for your reply, its sad that City dont have an official hall of fame, Spurs for instance have an excellent one. Supporters have their favourite players, there have been plenty of cult heroes Rooster, Tommy Wright etc but does that mean they are legends?

Apart from Banks and maybe Rowley we don't have an ex-player that is universally recognised, I'd imagine even those listed many fans outside of LCFC would probably say Who?

I'd still prefer a series of sculptured face masks embedded into the wall of the stadium so that we can include many 'heroes' because to me no one stands out above all others even more so when you consider the time span over which fans might nominate some one.

Good idea, and not room for many players. Which in my muddled way takes me back to my original point, there are far too many players who albeit were good servants to the club are now labled as legends. there are only a handful of players who should merit this status.

The word Legend is derived from the Latin legenda, "for reading, to be read," A legend was originally a story telling of some notable event from former times passed down from generation to generation.

Today a legend can also be a person or achievement that we regard as worthy of inspiring such a story.

Therefore, any one fan will speak of a certain player or players that they truly admired as being a legend.

For me, like DavieG, my top legendary player was undoubtedly Davie Gibson – as an Inside Left, he was the most exciting player ever to wear a City shirt. Alongside him on the left wing was another legend, Mike Stringfellow - creating for City fans, a partnership the like of which has never been surpassed.

So who are the other City legends? The answer is simple. It is whoever you speak of in glowing terms, the player who for you, produced that one moment of magic that you will remember and talk about till your dying day.

Sep Smith, Hughie Adcock and Johnny Duncan were before my time and yours too most likely, but they were true legends that will be talked about for as long as Leicester City FC exists.

Gordon Banks and Peter Shilton, two world class goalkeepers, Gary Lineker, goal scorer, poacher supreme – again true legends but we also remember with pride players such as Mal Griffiths, Arthur Rowley, Derek Hogg, Johnny Morris, Howard Riley, Ken Leek, Frank McLintock, Graham Cross, John Sjoberg, Keith Weller, Frank Worthington, Derek Dougan, Matt ElliottMark Wallington, Stan Collymore, Emile Heskey, Tony Cottee, Steve Claridge, Muzzy Izzet, Steve Guppy, Alan Birchenall, Steve Walsh, Len Glover and on and on........

You may well read through that list and think ‘he’s not mentioned Theo Zagorakis or Pontus Kaamark or Peter Rodrigues or Iwan Roberts or Alan Young or Robbie Savage or.Gerry Taggart or...or ...or..etc.

The truth is I could have listed another two or three hundred and I would still have left someone out.

We don’t need a Hall of Fame, we heed a stadium where there are reminders of great City players from the past at every turn!

DavieG - just glad that someone else on here had the good fortune to watch him play. I just wonder what his market value would be today? Sadly he only managed a handful of caps for Scotland - who occupied the inside left spot back then - Jim Baxter maybe?
