Ewerthon

He's a free agent striker who was offered a contract by Newcastle but turned it down, according to skysports he is interested in coming to England. Just wondering what everyone thinks of him? And would he be an option for us? Seems to have a decent scoring record and is 29 years old.

Newcastle offer turned down

Wikipedia link, info and stats

There are lots of other highlights of him on youtube, he seems like a great striker. Wonder if Sven could bring him in, I think he would be a good signing.

From Skysports article

His British representative Barry McIntosh told skysports.com: "There has been an offer from Newcastle.

"However, the player is still considering his options - that is all we can say at the moment."

Ewerthon has extensive experience in Europe having plied his trade for the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Stuttgart, Espanyol and Real Zaragoza.

He is eligible to join any club outside the window because his contract with previous club Palmeiras was cancelled in January

I remember him at Dortmund in the same team as Tomas Rosicky and Jan Koller et al. Absolutely rapid, if there's any remote chance of him still having the same pace and eye for goal he had back then, Sven should definitely make some calls.

*Just checked Wikipedia, didn't realise his scoring record at Zaragoza was that good, as well. Seems too good for this level, though i'd have thought the same about Yakubu, Davies.....

His goal scoring record is impressive, I wonder if Sven has thought about him or recieved any calls about him........

He's very pacy and can score all types of goals as shown in the videos on youtube, I think he would be a better option than the south african lad we tried out on loan and tried to sign, I think Ewerthon could be another option to use instead of Vassel, but I know i might be getting ahead of myself suggesting that.

Just wondering what everyone else thinks of him or has any more information about him. Also he has 7 caps for Brazil you dont get caps for Brazil as a striker without having some sort of skill lol

According to this Tribal Football West Brom have shown interest in him as well, I'm sure we could make a bid for him, and have him seriously consider us. He is a winger/forward and we could use a little bit more competition in those spots in our squad I think,

West Bromwich Albion are leading the chase for former Brazilian international Ewerthon, according to skysports.com.

The 29-year-old is available on a free transfer after he left Brazilian club Palmeiras earlier this month.

Ewerthon has spent much of his playing career in Europe, notably Germany and Spain.

He played more than 100 games for both Borussia Dortmund and Real Zaragoza and scoring 47 and 48 league goals respectively.

He spent 2010 with Palmeiras and scored seven goals in 21 games but it is now thought that he wants to come back to Europe for one last payday.

The player will not require a work permit due to the fact he has a Spanish passport and West Brom are believed to be in pole position to sign the striker. This is despite reported interest from Birmingham, Blackburn, Sunderland and West Ham.

His British agent Barry McIntosh told skysports.com: "A number of Premier League clubs are looking at him, and we are very hopeful a deal will be done soon.

"During his time with Dortmund and Zaragoza, a host of Premier League clubs were very keen to get him, but at that time he could not get a work permit and he did not have European citizenship.

He was.

Since my 360 died, I've had to go back to PES 2006 on the PS2. Buying 'stronghold guardians', 'speed demons', 'utility players' and 'shot stoppers' all over the shop.

one of the greatest football games ever - just a shame the PES series went to pot after that.

Don't know too much about him but I remember him being decent on old football games as I've always liked Dortmund, plus you can't really argue his scoring record for them and Zaragoza.

Does strike me as a little odd that his contract was cancelled, and that article saying about him coming back to europe for one last payday wouldn't surprise me because you can bet he'd get more over here than what he was for Palmeiras. Might be worth a punt I suppose but I think if Sven was interested him we'd definitely be in the article with the amount of bollocks that's been flying round since the Thais and Sven came in.

Not necessarily true. Alot of Brazilian clubs have a fair bit of moolah, and are willing to pay big bucks for a more 'recognised' star. Ronaldinho is on about £100,000 a week at Flamengo, according to reports.

Palmeiras have some financial clout, I doubt Denilson and Ewerthon were there being paid peanuts. You'd also get the advantage of being a star in the Brazilian league, which in turn would lead to more sponsorship deals, etc....

FOOK ME, didn't think any of their teams would have that much to spend on wages!!

Maybe this was the player who was asking for crazy money?

If you read Sven's quotes, it says the deal was agreed with the club. This geezer has no club.
