funnkyh Posted 5 June 2005 Posted 5 June 2005 Its been out for a while so you might already have it but The Ordinary Boys album (over the counter culture) is definatly worth a listen as is The Others. Would also recommend Please Describe Yourself by a band called dogs die in hot cars if you like the kaisers. Happy Tune Shopping!!
Mark Posted 5 June 2005 Posted 5 June 2005 The Mae album is better than all this trash this lot are recommending. If you don't want to buy an album that isn't popular though, ask to borrow it off Scowy..
Alexikokopops Posted 5 June 2005 Posted 5 June 2005 Ive got the Kaisers album and I love it. Ive not really heard any of your suggestions Alex, can you give me a clue as to what type of sound they are? 119510[/snapback] Right, British Sea Power are an excellent band, they've recently released their second album Open Season which is excellent and a litle more radio-friendly than the first (The Decline Of British Sea Power). I'd recommend getting Open Season first, even though my personal favourite is the Decline of... Plus they have huge fans in Lou Reed, David Bowie and Radiohead, which is always good Hope Of The States are excellent, my favourite out of the 4 listed, love them to pieces. I really recommend buying "The Lost Riots", I'd been waiting for about 10 months for it to come out, and when it finally did last June it was better than I'd hoped. I found a bit from a review which I think describes them and their sound best: What The Lost Riots does have though is a far more succinct and almost pop based take on the expanded horizons of the post-rock blueprint. They seamlessly mix the old faithfuls of the genre – that’d be military drumming, delicate pianos, searing strings, e-bows and rolling guitar crescendos – into four minute, melody filled songs. In fact, sod it, let’s not beat around the bush, let’s call it pop. If you bunged Supergrass into an anarchist commune for a week and pumped them full of paranoia inducing medication the results wouldn’t be far from the cascading melodies of the excellent “The Red The White The Black The Blueâ€Â. For all their dark and grumbling imagery read between the lines and The Lost Riots reveals itself to be a hope filled, sanguine recording. There’s the rousing hymn “Don’t Go To Piecesâ€Â, the paean to friendship â€ÂEnemies/Friends and if that isn’t cheery enough then there’s the shimmering lullaby “1776†that closes the LP and isn’t a million miles from “Somewhere Over The Rainbowâ€Â, but if you do drift off to sleep you’ll wake up again when the rage of hidden track “A Crack Up At The Race Riots†tucked away 10 minutes after the end fires the LP back into action. Interpol are a very good band, and much like British Sea Power their lead singer has an individual voice. If you've seen that episode of Friends in Barbados, at the very end just before the cliffhanger they play "Untitled" by Interpol. Again, I'm going to use a part from a review to describe them: Interpol, meanwhile, are punk in ethic alone; their music bears few of that genre's signatures, with the band instead immersing themselves in a grander, more theatrical atmosphere with lush production that counters their frustrated bombast. I recommend "Antics" because although I personally feel "Turn On The Bright Lights" is better, like with "Open Season" by British Sea Power, you may recognise more tunes on "Antics", like the singles "Evil" and "Slow Hands". Misty's Big Adventure aren't as well known as the other 3, but my friend saw them recently supporting the Zutons, and they're uplifting, and just listening to "The Solar Hi-Fi System" makes me want to dance like I've got 6 pints of Stella down me. They're a little bit weird, but you gotta love 'em Basically, the order in which I'd recommend is: Hope of the States - The Lost Riots British Sea Power - Open Season Misty's Big Adventure - The Solar Hi-Fi System Interpol - Antics

I know I would (hence I am )
