Ric Flair Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Just read it on the OS, expected to come on here to uproar but it's obviously only just been published. I have a feeling he could be a good signing, don't ask me why I just think he's got alot of people to prove wrong and he's at a club where he can do that. Optimism on a monday morning? ****ing hell.
Fox in a Box Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 I agree HOofmeister. Ian Walker made some bad elementry mistakes (Bolton anyone?) and every keeper does, Carroll, Seaman, Didi, Buffon, Bartiez (so many) ,Poole, Even Shilton had his moments. I think this is a Stonking signing given our position. Just remember a goalkeepers antics are magnified as he is judged on clean sheets and how he commands his box. I'm glad in a way we have had a change of keepers as it seemed as if walker was unhappy. Only time will tell. CL well done me duck, now we need Adriano up front! CL tartan army! CL tartan army! CL tartan army! Are we Celtic Are we celtic Are we Celtic in disguise?
Shum Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 And as the OS says, took a massive pay cut to come here too. Lets look up and let him prove the doubters wrong. Welcome aboard Rab!
Simon Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Thats another promising signing from Levein IMO. I thought he was stalling a bit, but seems I'm proven wrong, I think he'll do pretty well for us.
hinds12 Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 I personakly dont believe douglas is a good signing for us but i am willing to give him a chance to prove me wrong.
Ricey Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 I was sceptical beforehand but now I feel quite optimistic about this signing. I've accepted he will make a few mistakes but hopefully he should make more great saves and clean sheets. You dont get to be a regular for Celtic and Scotland without a bit of talent.
Katy Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 I agree with Ricey, I had my reservations but obviously I will give the guy a chance, I havent seen him play so it would be a bit shallow to diss him on hearsay.
Fox in a Box Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 well said Katy, how can you judge a player you aint seen play LIVE!
shelly Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Having family friends who follow Celtic, those who my dad has spoke to have said he will do well for us. Like someone has said, all goalkeepers make the odd dodgy mistakes. Let's just hope it's not often with Douglas!
Stuliasz Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Looking forward to seeing him play. I think a lot of Celtic and Rangers fans take his mistakes completely out of proportion, good luck to him!
SilverFox Posted 6 June 2005 Author Posted 6 June 2005 And Levein is confident the 6ft 3in keeper will prove a hit at the Walkers Stadium."He has proved himself in Scotland," said Levein. "But there's always something within players that they want to prove themselves at all levels. "This is an opportunity for him to prove he can get us up to the Premiership. "We are ambitious and so is Rab. We see ourselves as a team that will be up towards the top end next season and he sees it as a challenge that he wants to be a part of." Levein also revealed that Douglas is likely to be the No.1 for the start of the season. However, he expects Paul Henderson, his other new goalkeeper, to push hard for the jersey. "Rab's experience will give him a start before Paul," said Levein. "We feel that Paul is a talented keeper who is on his way up and competition is vital. "I want someone pushing Rab hard and Paul will do just that."
Durnerz Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Given where we finished last time around and the fact he's on less money means he must be coming here to play for us and not sponge off us, I look forward to seeing him play.
Little Nicky Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 I was skeptical and still am about this signature, I've spoken to one or two followers of Scottish football and am told he can be a good keeper but he is a bit dodgy! I'll try and reserve judgement though unitl I've actually seen him play! I'm a bit unsure as to why he's been handed a 3 year contract though, the guy is 33, surely a 2 year contract may have been the better option, ah well it's all done n dusted now, lets just hope he can perform!
lookwhaticando Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 If he was an outfield player and he was handed a 3 year contract, I'd be a bit worried - not every outfield player can keep going until they're 36. He's a goalkeeper tho and it's not too uncommon to hand goalkeepers of his age 3 year contracts. I'm sure the board and management staff know what they're doing - I certainly hope so anyway. I it's possible that he took the big paycut because of the contract length - his contract is 3 years instead of just 1 or 2, his future is a little more secure a little longer, and that probably played a part. I think the guy might just be worth all the effort we've put into signing him, I've heard good and bad things about him from all quarters but I'm sure he's not as bad as some say.

alijambo Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 My take on the rab douglas situation as a hearts and scotland supporter i have seen him close up and i have to say guys and gals you have made a decent sighning there. He as has been said earlier on this thread is guilty of the odd clanger and unfortunately for him they have more often than not been in high profile matches ala david james for england. But in saying that for the most part he is a big honest solid keeper who if you can forgive the odd mistake will do a right good job for you.
Hazza Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 Not a bad signing at all, he's no worse than Walker for me (hopefully better as i was never a huge fan of Walker ), and must be on a fraction of what Walks was earning. I always thought he was pretty solid when at Dundee, and any mistake made at Celtic would be under more scrutiny so it's a shame that a few were in the old firm games. Very good signing for this level nontheless.
BartonFox Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 There is far too much emphasis put on a players age these days. I don't rate Douglas for certain reasons but his age should not be a factor, to be considered 'over the hill' at 33 is frankly stupid almost outrageous. Jeez he's only 5 years older than me, I thought I be considered over the hill at 40 perhaps!!!!! I am sure he will be a great 'keeper for City, I sincerely hope he does but as a Tartan Army footsoldier some of his gaff's at international level have scarred me. Although to be fair that was mainly during the Berti Vogts era and everyone was pish then
Wellman Posted 6 June 2005 Posted 6 June 2005 At first I didn't think he'd be a good signing at all but I'm starting to feel good about this signing and it's good to see we can attract players like him! Players who have been number 1 at there club for a long time and played for there country even if it is only Scotland!!! :P
