DB11 Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 At least they all respect that guy who tells them to be quiet. Maybe he should be Prime Minister.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Alright it's probably an inappropriate time and place to say it, but barely. It's patronising, not sexist. Will be blown way out of proportion though, i'm sure. Great banter though. This. I'm fairly sure he'd say it to a bloke just as readily if he wanted to put him down. It's like you can't say anything derogatory about anyone who is different to yourself; however, as a white upper middle-class middle-aged man, he can say what the hell he likes about white upper middle-class middle-aged men without being accused of any -isms whatsoever. So that's fine then. At least they all respect that guy who tells them to be quiet. Maybe he should be Prime Minister. The Speaker you mean?
Guest Bilo Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 The Guardian comments page on this issue last night were almost as bad as the Daily Mail ones. Apparently it's OK to level abuse at somebody for daring to be born into a wealthy family or going to Eton but saying 'Calm down dear' to somebody who's behaving like a child crosses a line. I think the Guardian's a cracking paper but there aren't half some utter wands who read it.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 I think it absolutely pathetic to make such a fuss over nothing. What a moronic world we live in. Let's concentrate on issues that matter, and petty minded political correctness. How much lower can this country sink? /

The football ones are ****ng dire - regardless of subject it quickly descends into Man U v Liverpool v Chelsea v Arsenal and how they've all been cheated etc etc.

The football ones are ****ng dire - regardless of subject it quickly descends into Man U v Liverpool v Chelsea v Arsenal and how they've all been cheated etc etc. What annoys me though is that even the article writers are at it. 'Cameron's modern facade cracking under pressure to reveal the Eton-entitled, habitually sexist Bullingdon bully beneath' is an actual quote from one of the articles, as if every Labour MP was educated at an inner city comprehensive with a bus driving father and a secretary for a mother. I dare say the average columnist has a background closer to Cameron than Katona as well. Criticise him for being a cock fair enough, but criticism for something he never chose, in this case the class he was born into, is just puerile. It really strikes me as childish that some on the left seem quite happy to espouse some prejudices while condemning others, which is in itself hypocritical. Snobbery to me cuts both ways, and inverted snobs are just as offensive as the more commonly accepted kind. I'm no fan of this government and would vote Labour at the next election, but some in the political left, of which the Guardian is a major proponent, really do piss me off with their hypocrisy and I'm from a working class background myself. I wouldn't accept being sneered at for my social class by somebody from an upper class background, so why should the reverse apply? Gone off topic, especially when I should realise comments pages are absolutely chock full of tossers, but some of the references to Cameron's class would be stamped down if he was a comprehensive educated PM being attacked by public school educated columnists. I don't like the job he and his miserable coalition are doing but there are plenty of reasons I personally dislike the man that have nothing to do with how wealthy his family are. EDIT: Waits to be told to 'Calm Down Dear.'

EDIT: Waits to be told to 'Calm Down Dear.' A bus driver marrying a secretary is preposterous, it wouldn't be allowed. A secretary is only suitable for your middle classes. Of course if he inadvertently put her up the duff, that might be the exception. She would, of course, have to seek alternative employment before they got married
BoneDog Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Pre planned distraction technique that has worked a treat. There's some real important mooty going down right now and half the country has been debating this bull for 24 hours. Same's happening over the pond with the birth certificate tripe (even though it is a fake). Massive debates going on about phoney baloney, Tony. And real big zings are happening under our noses.
