Guest Bilo Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebofSyELcYs Not sure whether he actually meant to be sexist, but the reaction of the Tory MPs behind him boorishly cheering after he made the remark rather show how they took it. If he's quoting the eSure ad, he's a good few years out of date and if not, he's even more out of date in his use of the phrase and I can understand the offence. We should also remember that Cameron has form for scathing retorts to hecklers, I seem to remember him pasting Ed Balls a couple of years back for it. So whether he meant to belittle the MP is up for debate in my opinion. The fact he wouldn't repeat the phrase in its entirety when challenged shows he probably knew he'd made a balls up and in my opinion, he wouldn't lose much if he apologised. Probably gain a bit actually, especially when the Daily Mail gets to rant about him being a victim of PC Britain. Or am I thinking too much about it and being overly PC myself? Have to say the look on Harriet Harman's face does make this clip though.
StanSP Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 I don't give a shit But if I did, I'd say he cocked up for the reason which you mention that he doesn't repeat the phrase fully. It's like a signal that he realised his mistake.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 I was too busy looking at Nick Clegg and imagining ways to torture him in the most inhumane ways possible to notice Cameron's lame attempt at a joke.

Have to say the look on Harriet Harman's face does make this clip though. Definitely inappropriate. Definitely funny. He'll have to backtrack when he gets told the proportion of female voters who will see this as overstepping the mark. Ah well.
Haydos Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Alright it's probably an inappropriate time and place to say it, but barely. It's patronising, not sexist. Will be blown way out of proportion though, i'm sure. Great banter though.
Guest Bilo Posted 27 April 2011 Posted 27 April 2011 Not denying it's funny like. Just to clarify. Oh and agree with MTWG, Clegg just sitting there like a spare part makes me want to slap him.
stripeyfox Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 I don't think Cameron is a sexist. I think it shows that she got under his skin and he couldn't think of a cleverer put down. However it is the whole heckling and jeering thing that goes on in the Commons that puts people off. I know it's all part of the Westminster "history" but it looks and sounds shit. You wouldn't let a classroom of five year olds behave like that, or a University lecture or a board meeting at work so why do these idiots carry on like this. On another issue, there was a female MP behind Miliband with a great rack showing. Any idea who she is?
sdb Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Wow, he's a cock. Didn't expect that. Being blow out of proportion tho.
MikeyT Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 I was too busy looking at Nick Clegg and imagining ways to torture him in the most inhumane ways possible to notice Cameron's lame attempt at a joke. Blowtorch is always a good option.
The People's Hero Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Don't see anything wrong with it personally and neither did Anne Widdecombe yesterday on the radio. I thought it was funny - and yes, they did all need to calm down.
FoxyPV Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Anyone who chooses to quote Michael Winner is a dickhead.
AmericanScott Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 I couldn't believe this made the headlines. We have more serious problems concerning our country at the moment.
stripeyfox Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 I couldn't believe this made the headlines. We have more serious problems concerning our country at the moment. Agreed.
davieG Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 She doesn't seemed to be as concerned about it as the rest of her party. Labour has called for Mr Cameron to apologise, but Ms Eagle said: "I think if there's an apology due it should be for the dreadful growth figures that we have seen today."
Thracian Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Agreed. Indeed. If that is really the best that the Labour Party have to concern themselves about then it beggars belief. As for the women it will affect, I can't imagine any sane-minded woman would be so petty as to give a toss. My wife certainly didn't.. If it wasn't for "isms" 'm not sure the Labour Party would continue to exist. It always seems so appropriate they want to classify people and keep them contained in convenient little oratory boxes.
stripeyfox Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 She doesn't seemed to be as concerned about it as the rest of her party. I suppose they have to try and score points when they can. Cameron has been making mincemeat of Miliband at PMQs week in week out. I'm no massive fan of DC but the labour leader seems to be incapable of landing a decent punch on him.
Guest Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 She doesn't seemed to be as concerned about it as the rest of her party. That's probably the right attitude, show that you're primary concern is the country. Ed Miliband didn't seem that concerned either being as he was laughing at it. Can't be sure whether he was laughing because he realised it was a 'joke' or that he thought Cameron had made a clear error in judgement but either way I think this is and will be blown massively out of proportion
StanSP Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 I couldn't believe this made the headlines. We have more serious problems concerning our country at the moment. They were my thoughts exactly when Obama was told to publicise his birth certificate to prove he was from USA. Do people not realise that this was probably checked not once but THREE times (decision to run, the election and inauguration) and probably more in between.
Finnegan Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Yeah but the American right make our knuckle draggers look like Einstein.

Any idea who she is? yea it looks and sounds shit, though maybe if after he said it, they all got up behind him and the poznan it would look beter?
Smudge Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 It's a 'put down' what's wrong with that? Get a grip!
Libertine Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 PMQs is a joke anyway. Literally no point to it. Should be renamed 'Prime Minister is asked a question, subsequently fails to answer and resorts to petty name-calling'.
acooling08 Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Wow, the members of parliament are like a bunch of kids on the playground. I was taught how to behave better than that by age 5 ffs.
Webbo Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Load of fuss about nothing. Strange though, there was a bit of a stink in the papers a few months ago about some Labour MPs taunting a Tory MP with cerebral palsy. Never got a mention on the BBC.
ajthefox Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Gotta laugh at that, oh and Clegg sat there like a plum with no expression for the whole thing. He really did ruin any potential career he had the moment he agreed to the coalition. It's patronising and he knows he's done wrong by not repeating in full but fook me this has gone way too far. I can't believe anyone would be so petty as to complain about this and it making news is laughable. Politicians and their antics never cease to amaze me.
