BoneDog Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 If anyone has any gardening tips or questions then post them in here. I'm sure there are a few keen gardeners on here who will be able to help all you amatuers out there. If you are proud of your garden then feel free to post pictures. Wildlife to sheds to water features, it's all welcome. I won't be posting pictures for security reasons but I'm just paranoid. Gardening anecdotes are also welcome. Gardening is cool, especially when you've got some big f*%k off power tools to use so don't be embarrassed about enjoying it. There's nothing sexier than a man who looks after his garden in my opinion and all the housewives on my street love it when their men are out on the front sorting out the borders. Anyway, I bought a flame thrower that kills weeds today and canna wait to get out in the garden tomorrow and test it out. Got my safety goggles and yellow vest from when I used to work on the roads out earlier. Gonna get up about 6.30am and get out there and might even go up the street offering to do all my neighbours weeds an everyding.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 You growing some weed El? What's ya Hydro set up like and how are you keeping your Electricity down in order to not be flagged by the elec company bringing about a raid by the cops?
Haydos Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 I once mowed a lawn. It grew back though so I thought '**** that'.

I can't do it unfortunately because I live near where police helicopters take off from so they're always flying and hovering over here. They'd see the heat straight away with them infra-red camera thingymabobs!

stix Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Just spent the last 4 days overhaulling the back garden. finished this afternoon. Skip arrived at 9am and was brimming by 9:30! No MAJOR changes it was just a mess when we moved in. Slabs up, stones down, bit of playground bark here & there & some bordering......JD. On a slightly different note....has anyone either got or seen these parasol heaters/lights ? if so, any good....dont wanna shell out if they're not much kop! Oh and El.....whats this flamethrowing weed killing device? i think the last people to own our house just took an industrial strimmer to our back garden when the dandelions were up!! i have the remains of around 40 of them sticking their ugly heads out. was gonna wait a few weeks and just kill the grass and everything else on the lawn and reseed.
Wycombe Fox Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 Top gardening tip. Last weekend in March throw a bottle of scotch over your lawn.

BoneDog Posted 28 April 2011 Author Posted 28 April 2011 This little fella lives under my shed, taken from my office window. <bostin animal pic> Wow, I'm jealous of your garden already. What kind of animal is that? A Racoon? The only wildlife I seem to have resident is slugs! We have some foxes and hedgehogs visit now and then, but I haven't seen the foxes for friggin ages. Good man for getting out there and sorting the mess! Not sure about those heaters, I've never had one. My flamethrower (probably be more like a blow torch for Creme Brulees when I get it going) is called a 'Weed Burner' and was recommended by an in-law. It's got a gas canister that is supposed to last for two and a half hours. Not yet sure if they kill the roots or not but I hope so. You have to aim it at the middle of the weed about 2 inches off the ground and they just shrivel up and disappear I think. I've never worked out how to get rid of dandelions from the middle of my lawn but am not sure whether to risk the burner on the grass.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 28 April 2011 Posted 28 April 2011 I get ducks in my back yard but i've got a pool and no garden.

BoneDog Posted 28 April 2011 Author Posted 28 April 2011 That's not the one, very similar though but mine looks a bit bigger with a better / stronger pipe thing. It's Gardenline but I canna find it on the internet.
MPH Posted 29 April 2011 Posted 29 April 2011 Well what i did this year is make a green house out of PVC plastic piping. downloaded a basic design from t'internet, cost about 25 quid for all the parts and then covered it with 6mm thick plastic. another 20 quid. it stands about 7ft tall and we have about 15 seed trays in there. We have the land to plant all that as well as some corn. we have 3 different types of tomatoes, lettuice, cabbage, spinach, different types of beans, peas carrots, onions, garlic, water melons, cantaloupes. Great fun and a very cheap way of doing it all. here is a similar one to ours but oours was more basic and cheaper . i cant for the life of me find it though... http://pvcgreenhouse.blogspot.com/
BoneDog Posted 29 April 2011 Author Posted 29 April 2011 Excellent stuff MPH, I might try and build one of those beauties myself.

Aye Empty it's a raccoon, very rare to see them in the daytime and I have never seen one climbing a tree before. They are prone to rabies so we're always wary when one is acting unnaturally.
