Starting 11 for next season

Recommended Posts

Who would you have in your starting 11 for the opening game of next season if you were Sven. Be realistic please, we'd all have Messi and David Villa! Mine would be......

Westwood

Naughton Vitor Tunchev Konchesky

Wellens

Gera Gallacher

Yakubu Heskey

Subs: Bamba, Abe, Vassell, Nugent, Maynard

In an ideal world, they'd be some bigger names in there, but we are a championship club so we have to be realistic. Here's hoping Sven can work some magic and get better than I've gone for!

I'll have another go now it's not so early in the morning!!!

Westwood

Naughton

Vitor

Tunchev

Konchesky

Gera

Wellens

King

Gallacher

Heskey

Yakubu

Subs: Bamba, Abe, Vassell, Maynard, Nugent, Lonergan, Dyer

As I say, sorry folks for the early morning schoolboy errors. And to Socceroo Fox, isn't the majority of this forum based around us speculation? We have a transfer forum that's almost all speculation, there's very little foundation to any of that just yet. I simply thought it'd be interesting to see what starting 11's other fans would realistically like to see.

I'd like to see something like;

Westwood/Loach/Murphy

Naughton -- Hobbs/Vitor -- Tunchev/Mee -- Cunningham (if back from injury)

Abe -- Wellens -- McGugan

Vassell -- Yakubu/Heskey -- Kamara

McGugan never he's a forest lad

And? Peter Shilton played for Forest as well as Leicester. Martin O'Neill played for Nottingham Forest.

McGugan is a fantastic player, he uses both feet, technical, can score goals and comes deep to get the ball.

Very highly doubt he'll come, he's Forest through and through. Wouldn't say no to him, he is a class act. That cross for Tudgay's goal against us says a lot about him, rivals Gallagher for dead ball master class.

Westwood

Naughton - Bamba - Mee - Cunningham

Abe/Wellens

Gallagher - King

Kamara

Yakubu - Maynard/Graham

-----------------------------------Westwood

Naughton/gunnarsson------Vitor----Tunchev-----Cunningham

--------------------------------------Abe/Bruma

---------------------------------King-----------Wellens

-----------------------Graham------ Yakubu-----Gallagher/Ryo Miyaichi(season long loan)

Pretty narrow from me. for a 4-4-2 alternative

---------------------------------Westwood

Naughton/gunnarsson---Vitor---Tunchev----Cunningham

Vassell ----------------------King----Wellens---------Kebe (if we could convince him for another champo season)/Ryo Miyaichi(season long loan)

--------------------------------Graham--Yakubu

Alternatively having a different right winger and vassell being a sub up top/on the wing. Gallagher can sub in across the midfield, abe can swap with wellens to give king more freedom to move forward.

EDIT: was unclear so used ----- ; this is the team I would most like to see. Probably unrealistic. Subs: Ricardo (probably the only person who wouldn't get rid), Mee, Bamba, Kamara, and any with / above that aren't selected.

Yes I know he is a class act, I have liked him for a few seasons now and this year he has been great. When I was at school, my PE teacher who supported Forest said that McGugan was better than Jermaine Jenas when Jenas was McGugan's age and coming through the youth system (talking many years ago now when McGugan was just coming through).

You never no though, Commons moved to Derby and I think he supports Forest. More than likely, he wouldn't move though.

Another pointless thread going nowhere just like the other 10 or more based on speculation . The truth is we dont know who our team will be next season so why even bother guessing. Our season only ended last week and already these threads are insufferable. Gonna be a long few months at this rate

Be realistic, we could only dream of a team like that!

Another load of speculative bollox, I have read similar posts so many times over the last few weeks.

So, a dose of reality, several doses in fact.

Who, of our contracted players are definite starters nest season? Just 2, Bamba and King!

Decent chance of a regular starting place? Wellens, Gallagher and Vassel.

Fringe/squad players who might force there way in after a good pre-season? Parkes, Hobbs, Abe, Waghorn and Schlupp.

Even assuming the all make it to the match day squad (highly unlikely) that means we still need around 8 players, most likely about ten, there is no guarantee any of our successful loan players will be here next season, so it will be a very busy close season indeed.

We need.

A starting keeper, possibly a backup too.

Two starting fullbacks, backup for both and at least two center backs, if Hobbs leaves make that three!

A proper, experienced defensive midfield player, preferably a leader and a really hard core player, plus a genuinely creative midfielder who unlike our current players can do the job against the better teams.

A good pacy winger/wide man who can actually deliver what Dyer hints at but fails to provide, a proven goalscorer would be nice but Yakubu or any similar players will be too expensive, so expect a player from the championship/league 1.

A really tough job all round, Good luck Sven!

I think this raises an interesting point, actually. i think you are about spot on with the above assessment and given that to be the case, it is very probably that, having to effectively build a new squad, sven is going to be tempted to revert back to his preferred 442 set up.

i get hte feeling that if he can keep the bulk of the back four and the front players (all the loanees, basically), and we are relatively strong in defensive midfielders (wellens, abe, king, bruma, moreno), then the top prioroty will be two or three out and out wingers. And hopefully a more creative attacking midfielder.

Doesn't matter about this thread, because everything is speculation. Papers generally speculate that we are signing a player which someone will post on here, it still maybe specualtion though, even if it has backed up evidence. At the end of the day, we don't know who Sven has on his radar.

Westwood

Naughton Vitor Faye Bertrand

King Abe Pratley/wellens/mcgugan

Maynard/Gallagher Yakubu Kamara

Its really hard with Gallagher. He pussies out of most tackles and regularly fails to beat anyone with skill. His crossing, passing and shooting are amazing though.

I know. This is what I have been saying for ages.

He wouldn't be in my first 11 though, he does lack pace.

My City dream team...

Westwood

Naughton Tunchev A.Williams (from Swansea) K.Gibbs (on loan from Arsenal)

N.Dyer (from Swansea) E.Sno (on a free from Ajax) King Wellens S.Sinclair (from Swansea)

Yakubu

We need an attack minded left back who is also a good defender so try Gibbs from Arsenal

Raid Swansea if they don't get promoted for Ashley Williams, Nathan Dyer and Scott Sinclair and use the two wingers in the 4-3-3 formation we have used this year.

Also Evander Sno on a free from Ajax. He is a tall tough tackling and technical player who absolutely bossed the midfield when we played Bristol City at home in the 2009/10 season and even scored I think. He didn't feature at all last season after returning to Ajax so worth a shout.

Just Sven showing his age, at least I hope so......

4-4-fooking-2, practically medieval!

Not for me, all the players you mention are support players, none of them command the space in front of our center backs which is why we are desperate for such a player. All the names you mention are bits and pieces players, useful but not commanding enough.

Our biggest limitation this season has been a lack of real presence in midfield, faced by a decent side prepared to hassle and hustle, they fold every time, no presence, no leadership.

The single biggest issue we need to address this summer.
