Kingylcfc Posted 17 May 2011 Posted 17 May 2011 I'd like to see something like; Westwood/Loach/Murphy Naughton -- Hobbs/Vitor -- Tunchev/Mee -- Cunningham (if back from injury) Abe -- Wellens -- McGugan Vassell Gallagher-- Yakubu----Heskey -- Kamara so ----------------------Loach------------------------------ Naughton ---- Vitor---Tunchev --- Cunningham -------------------Abe--------Wellens--------------------- ---------McGugan---------------------King--------------------- -------------- Yakubu ------------- Heskey ----------- ____________
ScouseFox Posted 17 May 2011 Posted 17 May 2011 New keeoer (Westwood) Naughton - Bamba - Mee/Tunch - New LB () Wellens - King - Abe Kamara - Yakubu - Gallagher That's what I'd realistically be pretty pleased with. Not sure we really need 6+ changes that some people seem to be asking for/wanting. And I don't think so many changes would work either, after all loads of new faces didn't work this season. Stick with the core (except for Weale), just fill in at wing backs and on the right wing.

Sven has the opportunity (and financing) to put together his own team, why would he stick with 90% of a team that wasn't good enough this season, a team half inherited and stop gap loan players.

I see what your saying, but only 4 of the players in that 11 were here at the start of the season, and the tables since Sven (and most of that 11) came in, suggest that we'd be on our way to the play offs. So one or two new additions, and we're there. Unless we've got shit loads of money, and everyone we sign is a clear improvement, in which case go for it, but some of the signings in this thread seem to be signings for the sake of signing someone, just because we've got money, if you see what i'm saying, not really all that much of an improvement.

As marbella dave posted, out of the current squad who is quality enough to demand a starting place, certainly not 9 of them-

Bugg Posted 17 May 2011 Posted 17 May 2011 hes shit? you wernt complaining when he was bagging the goals last season! No, but I'm complaining now when he actually is shit, how many opportunities has he wasted when he's come on the pitch? QPR is a stand out game for his wastefulness. Being a headless chicken with no accuracy doesn't make you a good player.
ROWLEY_LCFC Posted 17 May 2011 Posted 17 May 2011 hes hardly had any games you disabled, give him a chance!!!

Bugg Posted 17 May 2011 Posted 17 May 2011 hes hardly had any games you disabled, give him a chance!!! He's had plenty of games to prove himself, and wasted almost every opportunity to do it (bar his goal vs Bristol City before you say it). Just cause I see it different to you doesn't make me a "disabled"

marbelladave Posted 18 May 2011 Posted 18 May 2011 Children please...... Waghorn showed considerable promise under NFP but was one of the players frozen out under Sousa who bizzarely favoured a player who did not even want to turn out for us. Sven brought in his own players and Waghorn's developement stopped stone dead. There is no doubt that he remains an energetic, commited player but he lacks composure playing the final ball, whether that is a shot or a pass. Great to watch for all his effort, a definite plus point, but ultimately unproductive. It is probably fair to say, that the lack of games has not helped, but had Sven seen anything in training then I am sure Waghorn would have been given more opportunities, from the bench at least. That he barely featured speakes volumes Along with Hobbs, Dyer and one or two others, it looks unlikely that Waghorn will make the grade with Sven's City, personally I would like to see him (and one or two other 'fringe' players) given a real chance to shape up pre season but like Hobbs I can see him being moved on should we receive a decent bid.
marbelladave Posted 18 May 2011 Posted 18 May 2011 Yeah it's not been great, but most of that's been put down to too many changes, are more changes going to help And I do agree with MD's post on starters/squad players etc, but he's not included loan players in that, so if you take loan players out of my 11, it's quite similar, in stating that only King, Bamba, Abe, Wellens & Gallagher will be fighting for places in our first 11 next season. Two points. Firstly there is no guarantee that any of our loan players will return next season either permenantly or on loan. The better ones, Naughton, Vitor etc will go to Premier league clubs here or abroad, as most likely will Yakubu. Ben Mee looks like a good fit but I am not holding my breath as I think others will be interested in him. Hopefully the Chelsea 'starlets' will not return. Secondly you include our three regular midfield players as likely starters, it is here that I disagree most strongly! While decent enough players, the combination is lightweight in all areas, no defensive steel, nothing like creative enough going forward and King apart no goal threat. As I have said many times before this combination is routinely rolled over by the better teams, during our great run, after the turn of the year, we were flattered by the poor quality of the opposition, mostly teams from the lower half. As soon as we came up against better sides in march they folded, our inexperienced back 4 was exposed and our positive form disapeared. The same midfield will get us no-where, only one of the three regulars should get a start, depending somewhat on who we get in.
