Leicester City to cut back on loan deals next season

Leicester City are looking to build a more settled squad with permanent signings this summer, says assistant manager Derek Fazackerley.

Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson brought in 13 players following his arrival at the Walkers Stadium in October, but 10 of those were loan signings.

Only Sol Bamba, Darius Vassell and Ricardo were not loans.

Fazackerley said they had no choice but to use the loan market so heavily last season, but added that there would be a change of policy for the next campaign.

Fazackerley feels players are more settled when signed permanently and focused fully on the task at hand.

"I think, in general, we wouldn't like to go into the season with so many loan players," he said.

"We would like to have the nucleus of the squad belonging to Leicester City. That is probably a far healthier position. We want to use the loan system only in emergencies.

"Sadly, last season, we were in the position where, if we needed to bring someone in, we couldn't do it at times, so we had to use loans.

"It is very difficult when you arrive in the middle of a season because there are only a limited number of players who are available to you anyway.

"I think we did quite well in respect to the players we brought in, considering the players who were available."

Fazackerley says City are interested in re-signing the loan players who were at the club at the end of the season for the next campaign, but are waiting for decisions from their parent clubs.

"At the end of the season we had six players on loan – Jeffrey Bruma, Patrick Van Aanholt, Ben Mee, Kyle Naughton, Yakubu and Diomansy Kamara – and, of those six, we don't know yet which ones we can bring back to the club or make permanent signings.

"I don't think we can write anyone off. They all had varying degrees of success. The likes of Mee, Van Aanholt and Bruma are outstanding players who are going to have outstanding careers, either at Leicester or elsewhere.

"A lot will depend on what their parent clubs want to do with them, which will dictate what happens to them next season

"I think they all made an impact, but obviously some more than others.

"That is always the case when you are signing players, whether that is on a permanent basis or bringing players in on loan."

Not surprised - All points for the loans were valid and i believed thats the reason they brought on so many loans and brought in the best they could.

Dunno about you but im excited for next season! - joint favourites to go up with West ham at 7/1!

Sounds good. Heads screwed on and all that. Glad to hear that last year's loan policy was out of necessity rather than design, which I always suspected it to be.

Good news. Ive never really understood the loan market especially from a business perspective.

I can understand bringing in 10 loan players, get promoted and jobs a good 'un, but we need to have a stable young squad, who if anything else will have a resale value if it goes tits up.

REALLY!? West Ham!!! No chance, they'll lose a lot of key players and will probably scrape mid table I think. Birmingham have to be up there I would think, providing they can hold onto some key players, considering they are in Europe and all that maybe players will want to stay..

Agree with you entirely.. And sevens on both west ham and city are good odds IMO. I think my money will be on the hammers to win the league though

Yeah thought they'd be up there. Us and Birmingham I think. Honestly can't see West Ham being all that impressive.
